Swim
Comments: Good swim for me. I was not sure where I was going towards the middle to end and aimed at the finishing bouys instead of the last one. The waves made it hard to see anything farther than 50 yards and the bouys were too small and far apart. What would you do differently?: I should pick out a better landmark to site on. Transition 1
Comments: Drank some gatorade to wash the taste of ocean out of my mouth, put on my clothes and went. Bike
Comments: I think I pushed too hard for the first 30 miles and I was feeling tired figting the headwind during the return up route 1. My neck and upper back were really tight and sore, it may be a bike fit issue or weak muscles. What would you do differently?: When someone passes me, try to ignore them and keep on riding my own pace. I should get by HRM battery replaced and wear that. Transition 2
Comments: Took one sock off by mistake, which might have cost me 10 seconds. Run
Comments: I started way too fast and couldn't keep it up. Both of the out and back parts were discouraging since I could see all the people in front of me and didn't know where the turn around points were. By the half way point, my feet were killing me and I was starting to fade. I walked some around the nine mile mark and walked for ten or twenty seconds several more times before the end. Of course the finish on the sand was brutal, but I knew it was coming. What would you do differently?: Pace myself. Don't wear shoes that are at the end of their life during a race. Post race
Warm down: Sat in the shade and stretched some. I wasn't hungry, so I didn't have the barbeque until my Dad finished and even then wasn't in the mood to eat. Event comments: The bike course is OK, the run would have been a great course if I wasn't in so much pain. The 200 yard run on the sand is cruel, but that is the race's trademark. My complaints: Packet pickup is crazy when the weather is nice and the beach is packed. There should have been more bouys in the water. Bike course is a little boring. I liked the back roads with hills and corners. Route 1 is too flat and straight. No showers open after the race. Last updated: 2006-05-24 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:20, dressed and left my parent's house at 4:50. Stopped at a convienince store for peanut butter and Tim Horton's for coffee and a bagel. Made a pit-stop at another Tim Horton's when we were almost at the race site.
Walked down to the starting area and swam for a little bit.
