Pre-race routine:

Nothing special / just relaxed with the family
Event warmup:

Nothing / just relaxed
Swim
  • 14m 30s
  • 437 yards
  • 03m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

Abysmal swim. Folks were grabbing, pulling and just not being nice. In addition there were tons of folks in the way and could never get a rhythm going. Grabbed the lane line a ton of times. No excuse to perform so poorly with how much time I have spent in the pool.
What would you do differently?:

Guess I need to HTFU and do some intensity work in the pool.
Transition 1
  • 03m 5s
Comments:

Good solid effort
Bike
  • 43m 41s
  • 13.67 miles
  • 18.78 mile/hr
Comments:

Solid bike ride. Effort was just right and I spent the majority of the time from 95-100rpm. Felt like I hit this pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Race wise, nothing. Training wise, up the intensity.
Transition 2
  • 02m 42s
Comments:

Seemed OK, but the time was very poor.
What would you do differently?:

Practice?
Run
  • 26m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt tired / flat on the run. Legs were tight, but not crampy. Just kept a slow, steady pace. Did accelerate with about 600 yards to go and could tell there was lots of juice there. But, dialed it back after 20 seconds / don't like the whole pain thing
What would you do differently?:

Intervals in training. Good job in the race listening to my body
Post race
Warm down:

Nada

Event comments:

Pretty frustrating to be 3 minutes slower after a year of training. Although, I "cruised" today versus pushing last week. Again, my cardio fitness is showing up great and my speed sucks. Need to make peace with this issue -- either turn up the intensity in training or accept my peformance level.

The post race this year was very poor compared to previous years. Drinks were hot, minimal food choices, not enough trash cans. Really looked like they had dialed back on what they spent.

Volunteers were again incredible / awesome. Overall organization was very solid.
