Pre-race routine:

This was my first triathlon, so the pre-race routine is still being developed and fine tuned. After packing the car and driving to the race site, I set up my gear then listened to some music.
Event warmup:

Did some light stretching and drank a few sips of water.
Swim
  • 10m 53s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

I feel like I swam well, especially since I am not used to swimming in a crowded pool. I got caught up behind some other swimmers and couldn't figure out how to get around them. While this slowed me down a bit, I think it helped keep me fresher for the bike and run.
What would you do differently?:

I would join a faster time group to enter the water earlier and be able to swim with slightly faster swimmers.
Transition 1
  • 03m 6s
Comments:

I got my arms stuck in my shirt.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions more and consider getting different clothing
Bike
  • 41m 28s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.81 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall, the bike leg went well. My pace was faster than I anticipated, but still felt comfortable. I had accidentally taped a gel to my bike number. When I grabbed the gel, the number pulled off too. I had to stop and reattach it. Aside from this, I felt pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

Not attach the gel to the race number. If possible ride the course before the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

I felt like I moved through T2 pretty quickly. I wasn't using advanced techniques, but did get to congratulate the 4th place finisher.
What would you do differently?:

Learn advanced techniques, like taking feet out of shoes on the bike.
Run
  • 28m 31s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

The run felt good, although by this point it was very hot. Some parts of the course were extremely sunny.
What would you do differently?:

I skipped a water station, then felt it a little later on. I also need to get out and run more in training.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate some pretzels and drank some water and Gatorade, then went out to brunch with the family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think with more practice, everything will start to get smoother.

Event comments:

I think this was a great race to start with and had a good time. I can't wait to improve on my times next year!
