78F / 26C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 42m 52s
Overall Rank = 663/3137
Age Group = 40-44 Fastest
Age Group Rank = 96/354
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4am. Ate bagel. Drank gatorade. Drank coffee. Glide everywhere(Mint-flavored). Tri clothes on. Drove to DC. Parking spot within 1 mile of the start with an easy escape.
Event warmup:

Fussed with tri area for about an hour. Sipped gatorade. Hugged team mates. Mud in toes.
Swim
  • 31m 21s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Water tasted fine, but I only enjoyed two gulps of the Potomac's Finest. Perrier is safe from the competition. No wetsuit due to water temps.
What would you do differently?:

Not wear a tri top?
Transition 1
  • 02m 11s
Comments:

What the heck do people do in transition? Some of the times astound me. Do people not realize that the time in transition counts?
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. 17th in AG. 160 overall.
Bike
  • 1h 13m 33s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.27 mile/hr
Comments:

I did not feel fast. Don't know why!
What would you do differently?:

Bike faster? More speedwork (fast rides)
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Seriously? Get the eff out of my way! I need to rack my bike and get out on the run! Wasted 3 seconds to go back and throw my glasses which were totally steamed up and in my tri top.
What would you do differently?:

Dump my glasses earlier. Push other racers out of my way!
Run
  • 54m 29s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

I thought that I could run at an average of 8:10. I was wrong :( But this was the first time that I passed more people than passed me on the run!
What would you do differently?:

Maybe start at 8:30 and try to negative split.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Got food. Went to tent.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

196 lbs. My own lack of natural ability. But I do rock the strategy part and the transitions. This is a PR for this race distance.

Event comments:

Extremely well run race. Post-race food sucked. Big time. I did not eat it, and I'll eat anything.
