Swim
Comments: Great swim. For the first time I was actually able to draft and didn't go off course. Got out of the water in 27 minutes. Totally slacked on the run up the hill though and let three people in my age group pass me there. What would you do differently?: Hussle out of the water. Transition 1
Comments: The whole run up the hill I just kept thinking how am I going to get this wetsuit off, I just didn't have the energy today nor did I care (back to the whole sick with a cold thing). Bike
Comments: On the way out I actually thought we were going into the wind and that the majority was uphill. I see the pros coming back from the turn around and of course they are whizzing by, I'm thinking it looks like the wind is at their back and they are going down hill for the most part. That caused me to think that the ride in will be nicer than the ride out. NOPE. Ride in was more into the wind and felt like it was more uphill. Precipitation started towards the end of the bike which made it even more enjoyable! But I got it done and that was the one and only goal of today. Transition 2
Comments: At this point I was thinking, seriously, I still have to run? All I could think about is going home, showering, and taking some buckleys cold and sinus. Run
Comments: It was rough. I did physically run the entire thing although I think I saw some speed walkers go by, ha ha ha. I was proud that I did it and finished considering I was not feeling good and my mental state was not the best. What I wasn't happy about was around the 7 km mark when a girl in my age group clearly runs past me, slows, looks at me and asks "are you in the triathlon or duathlon". REALLY! Clearly I was not feeling good and was seriously struggling at this point and instead of this person saying "good job" as she passed and try to help motivate a fellow athlete she decided it was more important to determine if she was moving up the ranks. First and only disappointing experience in my seven years experience with triathlon. Post race
Warm down: Sat down, finally got to blow my nose and was happy that it was all over. What limited your ability to perform faster: Sick/Cold. Event comments: Overall I was proud that I finished the race. I was in a really bad mental spot the whole day which stemmed from the fact that I didn't really want to be there because I was sick. But with Muskoka this fall I needed the OWS experience and practice with transitions. I was proud that I did the whole thing, didn't cave to giving up on the run which is what I really wanted to do. I didn't do much, I was still sick from a cold all week and was really not feeling into the race.
I swam a bit but didn't do anything else.
