Overall Rank = 62/64
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 6/6
Pre-race routine:

I camped at Ft. Clinch. I was completely prepared except for the extreme humidity and the cicada crickets that are extremely LOUD at night. I got a total of an hour sleep and woke up 45 mins before my alarm clock so I could get the hell out of there. The campground was nice with spectacular bathrooms facilities for a campground. I got up at 5am, packed up my camp site and was at the race by 6:30. Camp there if you have or are renting a camper.
Event warmup:

Small jog and stretching.
Swim
  • 37m 31s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim seemed a little choppy getting in but after 200 meters it leveled out nice. Same on the way back in. I expected to do a 45 min swim but I came out of the water at 36 min.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 03m 4s
Comments:

The race transition set up was pretty good for this race. I went slow.
What would you do differently?:

Speed it up a little.
Bike
  • 1h 24m 8s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.72 mile/hr
Comments:

This race is very flat. The first 5 miles (and Last) is in the complete sun. Miles 10-16 are in the sun as well. I went pretty fast compared to what I trained. My goal was 1:30 & I did a lot better than that. This is not a closed road course so be careful with the traffic. But it was a new paved road with a very big bike lane.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 03m 3s
Comments:

Took a bit to get my running shoes tied and situated.
What would you do differently?:

Speed it up changing into running stuff.
Run
  • 1h 18m 42s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran very slow but I was under my goal time which was 1:20. I felt like a sloth because my legs were hurting. I brought 2 energy Gu's and used both. It was getting pretty hot out which also slowed my down.
What would you do differently?:

Work on bike-run brick so my legs are used to the stress and fatigue.
Post race
Warm down:

A lot of water, chocolate milk, a beer, and stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to work on my bike run brick because I could tell that was limiting my capabilities. I was extremely fatigued on my run.

Event comments:

The volunteers were very nice and helpful. The after race events included food, beer, and music. They wait to do the awards until everyone has finished. Good race, nice people.
