Swim
Comments: Steady swim. Chasing bubbles, I was drafting 30% - 40% of the time. I was getting hot by the end, so I was working. Transition 1
Comments: Good, quick T1. I was having a toenail problem, so I opted to wear socks, which took a few seconds to don. What would you do differently?: Pre-ride the first half mile of the course. I should have ridden on my shoes about 1/4 mile, until after cresting the hill, and it would have been easier to put on my shoes while coasting. Bike
Comments: Hilly course. Several fun long downhills. Coming off a heavy training week, I was uncertain how hard to push during this race, so I coasted downhills to rest. Pedaling downhills could have added 1 mph. Good roads. What would you do differently?: Road drop bars instead of aerobars. Aerobars would have added 1.5 mph. Transition 2
Comments: No problems. What would you do differently?: They were handing out gels at an aid station immediately outside of T2. I should have grabbed one. I didn't NEED it, but if I'd have grabbed it, I would have had a choice to use it or not. Run
Comments: Michael Clancy, in my age group, caught me with 1/2 mile to go. I pushed and stayed just behind him. We ran at his pace, 7:00, rather than mine. When we turned the corner on Main St, I sprinted the whole last 0.1 and finished ahead of him. I had faster swim, T1, and T2 splits. He had faster bike and run splits. Nothing personal Michael, just business. Turns out I was battling for 7th. So what. But during the race I didn't know that. I did know if I came in 4th by 10 seconds I would be sad. So I'm glad I gave it 100%. What would you do differently?: Glad I wore socks, feet were comfortable. Post race
Warm down: Walked, jogged, 1 mile back from finish to T2 and car. No body told me to go inside PTS sports to get my t-shirt. After we came back with the car we figured it out, but we missed being in the prize drawing. What limited your ability to perform faster: This race was the end of a hard week of training, so I did not have fresh legs. It was hard work to go as fast as I did. Event comments: GA Multisports and Jim Rainey put on good races. This was a small town race, yet had 430 finishers. The finish was downtown, on Main St and a very festive atmosphere. Plenty of good food and water/Gatorade/Pepsi/Muscle Milk. Nice technical T-shirt. I recommend this race. Last updated: 2012-06-25 12:00 AM

Pre-hydrated enroute to race. Nice Race Trac station at I-75 exit for coffee and restroom stop. Ate a gel 10 minutes before the start.
Ran in place on the beach and light stretching.
