![]() Swim
Comments: Yet again, my navigation is way off. After doing some blind swimming in the pool I have found that as I tire I pull a little bi the right. So, for the race I lined up on the left thinking that would set me up well if I veered to the right a bit. Well, I ended up going way left and having to readjust a few times just to get to the first buoy. I rounded the first buoy about 10-15' on the outside of the buoy. The rest of the race went a little better, but I'm thinking I lost a good 30 seconds or so due to yet another poor navigation performance. What would you do differently?: Not line up left. I need to practice more blind swimming in the pool. I'm also thinking about finding a 50 meter pool which I think will help too, so I won't be able to readjust every 25 yards. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Good transition. Tied for fastest transition in the race. Not much more to say. What would you do differently?: Nada ![]() Bike
Comments: Pretty good bike for me. Took me a little awhile to recover from the swim and long run to transition, but once I was able to settle down, I felt really good. This is a PR for me on this bike course by almost 2 minutes. I was hoping to go sub-41, so I just missed that time goal, but still pretty happy with how the bike went. I took it hard, but not too hard to set up a good run. What would you do differently?: Nothing. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Everything went well. No hic ups. What would you do differently?: Nada ![]() Run
Comments: Felt really good. Took the first mile at around a 6:25/mile pace. The hills in the middle portion of the run slowed me to around 6:45's or so. The course was about .15 miles short, so that is reflected in the time. I was hoping to go sub-21 on the run (based off of last years course which was a full 3.1 miles). Even if the course had been the same with the pace I ran (6:37/mile per GPS watch), I would have run about a 20:30, which would have still met my goal. So, for that I am very happy. What would you do differently?: Nothing ![]() Post race
Warm down: Poured water over my head, drank some water, walked around a bit and waited for Joy to finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim navigation. Event comments: Love this race. Not sure if it will fit into my race calender next year since I will be in the middle of IM training, but if possible, I will definitely race it again next year as I have the last 4 years. Woke up around 4:45. Ate a bowl of cereal. Ate a half od PB and honey sandwich on the way as well as sipped on coffee and my NOS Blast drink. Drank about half of the serving pre-race and the other half I poured into my water bottle to drink on the ride.
Jogged about a half mile, stretched and swim about 200 yards or so.
