Swim
Comments: I was disappointed with this swim. The wave I was in was males 50+ and figured it would be pretty clear since I'm usually in the top 2-4 in my age group. As it turned out, there were some problems. There were some people on the previous wave that were having some problems. As I was about 1/2 way to the bouy, I looked up and there was a kayak that was moving to help a swimmer and blocked my path. Right next to the kayak was someone doing the backstroke and I was totally blocked in and had to go around both. On the way back, it wasinto the Sun and I couldn't sight very well. I thought going straight at the Sun was the correct path, but this ended up being too far to the left. This was also my first swim wihtout a wetsuit. What would you do differently?: Do a better job of getting my bearings. Get back into swimming shape. My left arm is not up to snuff due to the two bike crashes I had in November and March breaking my left Clavicle, Scapula, and tow ribs on the left side. Transition 1
Comments: This was a miserable T1. Cleaning sand/dirt off my feet was a pain and I should have practiced more. I actually put a running shoe on without thinking. This was as slow as some transitions where I had to take off my wetsuit. What would you do differently?: I need to practice T1. I've been apprehesive about switching to keeping my shoes clipped to the bike but maybe it's time to make a change. If I had a decent T1 I would have been 2nd in my age group. Bike
Comments: This was my best bike segment, but I kind of expected that since this was my first Sprint. Looking back, I don't think I got passed at all. Going out I maintained a pretty decent pace, but I was flying when I hit route 3. I was passing people pretty much the whole way. I did not do too well on some corners. I did not slow down enough and went very wide on some of the them. I thought the bike was 13 miles but the site says it was 12.69. My original thought that I averaged over 22 mph was sadly incorrect. guess I can live with 21.5 since this is my fastest bike segment I've had. What would you do differently?: Slow down more at corners. Work on riding with feet on top of shoes to save some time in T2. Transition 2
Comments: My T2 wasn't too bad. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I was worried about my right calf and it flet fine for the first mile but started to tighten up pretty good after that. I was worried that if I pushed it woud give out. I was surprised that I was as fast as I was. What would you do differently?: I haven't been able to run much due to the calf problem. I had less than 5 miles running for July before the race and a total of 21 mils for all of June. I need to take some time to heal up over the next several weeks. This may be my last race of the summer. Post race
Warm down: Nothing in particular. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor T1 and injuries. Event comments: I liked this race and may do it again next year. Last updated: 2012-06-27 12:00 AM

I got up at 4 and had a bowl of cereal, OJ and coffee. I got my gear organized and did some light stretching.
Not much. I was worried about my right calf and didn't want to do too much.
