Total Time = 3h 33m 13s
Overall Rank = 168/171
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 23/24
Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal, drive for an hour and then setup staging area.
Event warmup:

Got in the wetsuit and took and swam a few strokes in the lake. Nothing special
Swim
  • 35m 52s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

OK swim, glad to have worn the wetsuit despite the water temperatures. The lake is too shallow and there were weeds that had grown tall enough to impede a proper swim stroke. There was a slower person in front of me that seemed to practically be blocking me for 2/3 of the swim. Finally got around him and finished the swim strong.
What would you do differently?:

Power past the slower swimmer who was blocking me much earlier and find some open water to swim in. I was stuck in a pack for most of the swim.
Transition 1
  • 03m 34s
Comments:

I need to press myself in the transitions. Too slow.
Bike
  • 1h 28m 9s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 16.91 mile/hr
Comments:

Need to push myself harder on the bike. Too fat right now to be fast but I'm just not challenging myself like I am actually racing. Yes this is my first season and I've approached each race with the idea of just having fun and that has resulted in slowwww.
What would you do differently?:

Press harder
Transition 2
  • 03m 34s
Run
  • 1h 22m 6s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 13m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

This run was easier than my last try but my time was the same slow time.
What would you do differently?:

Need to lose more weight and push the run training much harder between now and TRIrock in Sept.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, talked with my wife and drank some water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm too fat and actually gained weight during race season. Shame, shame, shame.

Event comments:

I'll definitely be back next year (God willing). This was a fun race. I'm in my first season and every race is an exciting event for me. I feel like a kid on Christmas eve waiting to start and then it's just fun, fun, fun. :)
