Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:20 and got ready. Ate the usual oatmeal with some granola sprinkled ontop. Was pretty good. Got in the vehicle and drove the 100 minutes to Oswego. Got transition all set up and after emailing the RD asking if it was assigned and was told no it's first come first server they told everyone they had to move!!! Ticked me off pretty good since I had gotten their early for a great transition spot.
Event warmup:

Swam a couple hundred yards which felt good. Water was warm. Did some light stretching and got ready!
Swim
  • 12m 4s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

It wasn't to bad of a swim. Tons of contact on the first 100 yards or so. After that the seperation always happens where the people who go out harder than hell either die or continue to just be sharks. Didn't really have anyone pass me but one guy after I had gotten ahead of the pack. Sighting after the final turn bouy was hard since it was directly into the sunlight.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. They need to do something different for the swim starts. Stupid way to run into the water at an angle.
Transition 1
  • 00m 29s
Comments:

Should have gotten a better running jump onto the bike. We had to run up a hill comprised of gravel so it hurt like hell. Had rocks stuck to my feet from them being wet and had to deal with them in my shoes throughout the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Decent transition time for me.
Bike
  • 36m 59s
  • 12.8 miles
  • 20.77 mile/hr
Comments:

It was tough. Had a good tailwind for about the first couple miles. After that it was a strong cross wind then pretty much after that a bad head wind. Was really surprised I was that fast on the bike. The wind was fairly strong and I didn't think I was going to do as good. Didn't pass a single person and got passed by 4-5 people if I remember right. Everyone of them with aero-wheels and helmets. Next season I guess :P Really wish there wasn't as much wind during the bike but oh well everyone else had to go through it too. About 3-5 miles of the road was pretty rough as well. I gave it a smooth rating because 3/4 of it wasn't bad but there were some really terrible stretches.
What would you do differently?:

Get more T.I.T.S.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

Everything was going good. Found my rack very easily. Had an issue trying to rack my bike due to the fact the guy next to me's equipment bag was knocked over into my spot. Had to pick bike up over rack and go in backwards. Otherwise racking went well. Had an issue getting my right foot into the shoe but otherwise it was a relatively good transition as well.
What would you do differently?:

Kick the clowns bag that was where my bike was suppose to go out of the way right away.
Run
  • 21m 28s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

I got a stitch in my side about 1/4 mile into the course. First time getting a stitch in a LONG time. I think it limited my ability to perform as well as I wanted. Overall it went well I think. I think I could have pushed it a tad harder but, who knows. Tried to keep up with the second guy who passed me but he was just going to quick for me.
What would you do differently?:

Not get a stitch in my side. Dehydrated maybe?
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Found the wife and my in-laws who decided to surprise me and come watch me race. Was really nice of them. Great support team.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Possible the recovery week. Took it easier than I was suppose to I think and it showed a tad.

Event comments:

I don't think I will do this race again. We will see. They didn't have their stuff togeather when transition open and it cost me a good transition spot. They also didn't have any water stations around transition so you could get a drink when leaving for the run. The awards they did screwy too. The guy who won the whole thing was in my AG. They gave him his huge trophy and then also gave him the first place medal for his AG. That isn't suppose to happen. They told me thats how they do it at their race. He refused the medal and they still wouldn't give me the first place medal even though since he won the race that makes me first in our ag I always thought. Oh well. That irked me a lot.
