Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6am for 8am race. Ate usual breakfast of powerbar, wheaties fuel, and gatorade. Gel & water right before the start. Watched some Olympics road cycling while getting dressed. Headed down to the hotel lobby to meet Steve & Dawn.
Event warmup:

Walked from street parking to starting area. Found the bathrooms and got some water. Did a little light stretching and some general moving around to get the blood flowing.

Comments:

Another run more for fun and for running with my neighbor. He had ran this race 7 times in the past and wanted to do it again. His wife ran and mine was supposed to, but our daughter came down with an illness and passed it along, so she didn't make the trip. I treated this more as a tempo run and it worked out pretty well, although I had to work to go sub-8:00 with all the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Not bring the endurance (salty) Gatorade as my only fuel. Maybe grab some at the aid stations but otherwise stick to water. Stomach was not happy. Did a 16 mile long run the Wednesday prior with only water and gel (GU) - no problems and it was 80F with high humidity even at 5am.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around post-party, which was pretty lame. Sponsored by Walmart, it seemed as though they just emptied their warehouse of all the crappy junk food that was about to expire. I took my fair share, but brought most of it home for Emily. Definitely not as good a party as it was made out to be, IMO.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably the lack of hill training (!) and specific preparation for this race combined with the 1/2 ironman 2 weeks prior and the HM 1 week prior. July was busy!

Event comments:

Had fun with my neighbors, but wouldn't run again unless it is with them and/or others.

Course: Hilly out-and-back course through downtown Davenport. Lots of hills. A couple pretty good ones. Downhill to flat finish, though!
