Pre-race routine:

Got there early picked up my chip and got marked and then had to hang around until my starting time. Met a few BTers in transition and watched the swim and then bike start. Surprised at the number of early seeded people who had trouble getting on their bikes, many of whom ended up on the road.
Event warmup:

DId a bit of jogging, that's about it.
Swim
  • 06m 52s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

Due to a mistake in my swim time I started behind a young lady who didn't know to stop at the wall when I hit her toes so eventually I had to swim around her. I wasted too much time behind her.
What would you do differently?:

Register Early enough to double check my swim time.
Transition 1
  • 02m 29s
Comments:

Took it easy in T1, maybe too easy!
What would you do differently?:

Have a greater sense of urgency in transition.
Bike
  • 42m 15s
  • 12.7 miles
  • 18.04 mile/hr
Comments:

Started well averaging just around 20mph but missed a gear change on an uphill section that caused me to work too hard there. Then I decided to slow down and save something for the run. I did meet my goal (18mph) for the bike. I could have been faster but then my run would have been even worse than it was.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much. I just need more time in the saddle and at a faster average speed.
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

Didn't use my clip in pedals so all I had to do was grab my race belt and hat and hit the road.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 34m 36s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

As usual I struggled with the run. Nothing drastic, I'm just slow.
What would you do differently?:

I need to run more and plan on doing just that.
Post race
Warm down:

Someone handed me a cold, wet towel...thanks! Drank a Poweraid, had some pizza, walked over to transition and got my bike and gear. Walked back to cheer in other racers and stood in the shade of a tent.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Still not in top shape after our trip to Europe.

Event comments:

More volunteers this year and everything flowed better. The only negative is that this year we couldn't use the facilities in the YMCA that were available to us last year. I do understand but liked it better before.
