Swim
Comments: Solid swim as I started at the front center of the pack. Strong start with only a couple of swimmers in my age group to my right and one on the left. I settled in and then paced myself until I increased my speed after the last buoy. I had to dodge a ton of swimmers throughout but my sighting was good even with the sun glare. What would you do differently?: Better kicking and better ability to handle the sun glare. Transition 1
Comments: Solid entrance and exit as the only issue was getting my wetsuit off my one leg which wasted about 3-5 additional seconds. What would you do differently?: Nothing really as I moved very quickly to get to the bike considereing the distance to the start. Bike
Comments: Once I got my feet into my clipped shoes which did not take too long, I took off and settled into a solid pace. My power was generally consistent with the majority of the miles around or just above 270. A lot of people on the course so there were some obstacles which caused me to slow down just slightly and reposition my bike. Overall, I wanted to be around 1 minute faster but generally happy with my output. What would you do differently?: Bike more with the focus on maintaining my power in zone 4/5 for longer periods of time. My avg power was at 240 so this needs to increase although this was caused by the number of bikers on the course and my late start. Transition 2
Comments: This was tricky because my timing chip did not register going into T2. I was in and out of T2 with litte issues at all so this time was higher then what I expected. What would you do differently?: Move quicker if possible to make it a quicker exit. Run
Comments: Started out with a solid pace after crossing the mat and not hearing my chip beep? I was not the only one but my reults were altered correctly by CGI. The weather being perfect helped since I had been training in heat so everything felt and I noticed the same for everyone else. I did grab a wet towel from time to time but felt fine. I slowed just slightly around mile 4 but then picked up the pace the from 5 to the finish. I kept my focus by telling myself to "stay in the moment, focus and power down". Overall, I was pleased with the output although I need to get back under a 8 mile pace. What would you do differently?: Increase my volume and overall speed during my training. Post race
Warm down: Felt fine at the line with no heat related issues like years prior. Ihad some water, sat down under a tree and chilled for a minute. I rinsed in the portable showers and then went over to check my results. What limited your ability to perform faster: Slower then desired run and having to deal with passing many participants during all discsplines of the race. Event comments: Overall, I met my goal for the race so very pleased. Felt good with my place in my age group and will train harder as I feel I'm capable of reaching 2:25 with a little more work. CGI did a great job as always running the race! Last updated: 2012-07-04 12:00 AM

I arrvied a little later then I wanted but was not rushed in setting up. I had to skip running in order to grab my wet suit which I initially decided to keep in my truck but glad I wore it.
Since I was in the 10th wave out of 11, I had plenty of time to stretch and get in the water for a warmup. The water was 74 degrees and about 75% of the participants were wearing wet suits.
