Swim
Comments: OMG, what a mess! Thankfully years of confident swimming kept me calm and afloat and moving to salvage this train-wreck of a leg. After drinking half the lake, my body went into freak out mode every time I put my face in the water. Ended up swimming head-up front crawl the whole way. What would you do differently?: More open water/closed eyes practice. Try to find a colder training pool. Transition 1
Comments: This was brilliant. Not having a wetsuit to take off or socks to put on really helped. What would you do differently?: Wouldn't have changed a thing. Bike
Comments: By far my best leg. Pays to be a chubby girl riding downhill! Lots of passing helped confidence that was destroyed on the swim. Likely went too hard, as the run following suffered (but not unlike training). Cannot wait to get off a wide-tired mountain bike and onto something better for racing. What would you do differently?: Ease off a bit sooner on the return leg to recover for the run more. Transition 2
Comments: Had trouble racking my bike, so i just popped it over the top of the rack as there was sufficient room to do so. What would you do differently?: Find a way to practice proper bike racking while out of breath. Run
Comments: This was awful as expected. Mouth was terribly dry, but stomach was sloshing from too much water and side stitch had me walking at the 2K mark. Was just running out of steam on the long uphill back to the final 500m. Awesome help from another competitor over the last KM. What would you do differently?: More brick practices, and increased run mileage overall. Not sure what was up with the 'not enough water/too much water' feelings I was having. Post race
Warm down: walk/stretch/water What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm fat. :D Better run conditioning would have helped get through the end of the race feeling stronger. Event comments: This was my first race, so I can't compare against others, but I had a great time. So many people were cheering you through... awesome! I'll be back next year for sure.
