Swim
Comments: Swim was not my best. I had trouble getting used to the cold water and took the first quarter of the swim trying to calm myself down and get my breathing composed. Sighting and bouy rounding was better this race. Stayed close to the buoys. What would you do differently?: Get in the water before the start. Transition 1
Comments: Had trouble getting my first foot clipped. Slipped at least 3 times before it took and then the second foot took 2 tries. Also didn't have the bike in the appropriate gear for starting on a slight uphill. No issues with wetsuit or in transition area. What would you do differently?: Ride the beginning of the course before the event to make sure I was in the right gear. Bike
Comments: Need to train more hills especially long gradual hills in order to compete next year. Transition 2
Comments: T2 felt good this time. Run
Comments: Run was good as long as I kept my pace and didn't let it get away from me. Had plenty of energy to push at the end and felt strong through the whole run. This was a big improvement for me. Took advantage of all the water stations to continue to pour water over my head. That helped a lot. What would you do differently?: Maybe I could have pushed the pace a bit more but I wanted to end the event on a positive note. I will continue to run as having a run focus the week before helped me quite a bit. Post race
Warm down: Lots of walking around and stretching. Later, I went and did a massage which was excellent. What limited your ability to perform faster: The bike portion and that long uphill. When signing up for events, I need to do better at researching the courses beforehand and modifying my training to the events coming up. Event comments: Post race activities were excellent and the whole weekend was great! The Black Fly Festival really is a whole weekend of fun for the whole family. Last updated: 2012-07-09 12:00 AM
