Swim
Comments: Swim to the first buoy was a massive scrum. I did well though. Managed to PR the swim by 4 minutes. No major navigation errors aside from going a bit wide from buoy 1 to 2 on the second lap. Nothing major. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Swim was the only thing that went well today. Transition 1
Comments: Total mess. Long muddy run from lake to transition area. Run went fine, but this was my first experience with a dirt transtion area. I should have given it more thought. First mistake was unracking bike before putting my helmet on, spilling the helmet and my glasses, which took me a few seconds to find. Next I should have ran with bike shoes ON. As it was running barefoot getting stabbed by thorns and rocks was slower than just running with shoes on which wasn't much of a handicap in the nice soft dirt. Bike caught a divot while I was running and dumped over breaking a zip tie on my homemade torpedo mount and launching my water bottle. Had to do the entire bike leg with no water, and broken mount flapping in the breeze. What would you do differently?: uhhh. yeah. Bike
Comments: Completely blew up with about 10 minutes to go on the bike. Pacing was part of the issue, kept going back and forth with a couple guys who were constantly sucking my wheel... Then the lack of fluids completely smacked me down for the end of the bike and the entire run. What would you do differently?: Drink something. Transition 2
Comments: Came into T2 a bit of a mess. Never tried dismounting with shoes on before, not really possible to do the flying dismount. Still, managed to easily pass a guy who took his feet out of his shoes so it was the right call. T2 was a bit of a mess. People were leaving huge backpacks in the area and someone had racked his bike in my place, I moved his bike over, racked mine, put on my shoes and my racing belt (not on the run like I should have) and took off. Passed the timing pad and realized I still had my helmet on. AMATEUR HOUR!!!!!!! What would you do differently?: ......... Kill me now. Run
Comments: Drank as much as I could on the run, wasn't even close to enough. I was very crampy in my left gleutal area (piraformis??) not sure, but it effing hurt. Didn't loosen up until a couple miles in. Must have been passed by 10 people on the run, and only managed to run down one person. Last Oly I ran a 47:00. I suppose the fact that I only lost 1:45 is a damn miracle. What would you do differently?: Drink something on the bike. Post race
Warm down: I cried in the dirt for a while. What limited your ability to perform faster: Mental Mistakes. Still ironing out kinks on new TT bike. Need better bottle setup (doi) Event comments: Overall I'm pleased I managed a 2:30:XX considering the blatant stupididity I exhibited on the course. I think if I execute well on a race with normal sized transitions I can pull off a 2:25, maybe a bit faster with my current fitness. Last updated: 2012-07-14 12:00 AM

Tried drinking a protein shake the morning of... felt a bit fullish at race start, maybe next time half a shake would be better. Also had one peice of peanut butter toast with some honey and about 1/3 of a redbull.
2 mile ride to the transition area from parking. Unpacked transition and picked up race number, swam about 100m.
