Swim
Comments: Good swim. Muddy water but good sighting of bouys. Lots of mild contact, never got kicked bad or lost the goggles. Somehow picked up one of the lifeguards whistles that my hand just sort of plunged through - think they dropped it while picking up someone from an earlier group. What would you do differently?: Work on longer distances in training so that I can push more in the swim. Otherwise very happy with it. Transition 1
Comments: Slow transition but just trying to make sure I did everything I needed to and get out of the transition without having to go back for something. Bucket worked well, rolled the socks and they went on without difficulty. Fast laces on bike shoes worked wonders. What would you do differently?: Just speed up the process - again, pretty happy with this. Bike
Comments: Didn't train on the bike as much as I should have quite clearly. Also didn't ride the route prior to the race - another mistake. Rather technical course in terms of turns and narrow routes but nothing too difficult really. Biggest issue was even though thst start/end is the same spot, I swear the route was uphill everywhere. What would you do differently?: Train on the bike in general, but very much so on the hills. They hurt me bad - and thus also hurt the run. Gotta focus on this for next year. Transition 2
Comments: No big issues here - just getting it done. What would you do differently?: Nothing much different - other than push my hydration to earlier in the bike so I didn't slosh during the transition. Run
Comments: Hurt the pace due to the bike. Had a tough time with setting into a rhythem and sticking with it. Walked some which was disapointing but felt like I had no gas left after the tough bike. What would you do differently?: Do better on the bike. Otherwise just more miles and be able to push harder. Post race
Warm down: Walked around with family, sports drink, couple of waters, bag of chips and then the awards ceramony. New record set by the 1st place guy today - exciting to see something like that. What limited your ability to perform faster: This year was getting back into shape. Next year I need to focus on actually training for the race and getting on the course before race day. Overall - I'll take it gladly for my first Tri! Event comments: Great race - hope to do it again next year. Really made me excited to show that I can get this done! Last updated: 2012-07-15 12:00 AM

Up at 5:30, english muffin with peanut butter, smash bar, 8oz of OJ then jump in the truck (loaded it night before) and headed to the race. Set up the transition zone (I use a 5 gallon bucket as the base).
Minimal - walking and stretching. Felt too nervous to to do much - first tri.
