Swim
Comments: What Can I say. It was a crappy performance. I've never tried a mile long open water swim without a wetsuit. Never realized just how helpful they are. Also, my sighting was crap. I kept veering WAAAY to the right. I was on the wrong side of the kayakers more than once. This was made worse by my obstinate refusal to learn bilateral breathing (i only breathe to the right) and of course this was a counter clockwise swim. So was always breathing away from where the markers were. I added quite a bit of extra distance. Need to practice a lot more!!! What would you do differently?: Sight better. Practice open water awimming without a wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: No wetsuit made for a quicker T1 but I still sorely missed my wetsuit. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I'm happy with it. Bike
Comments: Fastest bike split I've ever had even though my rank sucked. Even faster than the sprints I've done.....so i'm pretty happy with it. Still could have pushed harder. My sit bones were starting to hurt pretty good. Should have practiced a few more times with the minimalist chamois on my tri shorts on my new Adamo ISM saddle. Maybe I'll get a tri short with a thicker chamois. What would you do differently?: Push harder. Maybe I should get re-fit since my left fibular head hurts when I ride hard ever since I got my tri bike. My delts felt tired too(?). Get new tri shorts with a thicker chamois. Transition 2
Comments: Happy with it. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Maybe rush a bit more. Run
Comments: Kept a good pace. First 2 miles were about 8:35 pace. Slowed a little but not much as final pace was 8:49. Had sips of water at nearly every station except the last. Also grabbed a couple if sponges along the way and dumped water on my head too. Kept reasonably cool. Started drizzling at the end of my run which was nice.Thank god for the clouds!!! What would you do differently?: Probably could have pushed harder. Felt pretty good at the end of the race which tells me I should have pushed harder. Post race
Warm down: Nothing really. Walked around and had some gatorade and cookies. Strethce a bit. Left pretty soon after since I had to get home to my kid and pregnant wife. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not wanting to feel too much pain (ie wimpiness). Also a crappy swim. I've been focusing on the bike this year but now I know I have to increase my swim volume to prep for chicago at the end of August. Oh and my inability to float without a wetsuit. Event comments: Extremely organized race with tons of volunteers and plenty of water/gatorade. Safe and clearly marked course. The triathletes here mean business. There were a lot of fast folks out there. I mean crazy fast. Last updated: 2012-07-15 12:00 AM

Stayed at America's Best Value Inn (cheap and close to highway). Woke up at 3:50am. Showered then had a bagel/cream cheese and a clif bar. Also had some Powerade. Then packed up and left for transition at around 5am. Short 15 min drive. Pretty easy to find and plenty of parking right near transition.
Not much as usual. Ran around a little. By the time I got to the lake for a short warmup swim they were telling people to get out.
