Pre-race routine:

UP at 5:00 AM. Had breakfast of oatmeal, 3 eggs, protein drink, toast with peanut butter. Loaded gear and arrived at 7:00 AM. Got my body marking and set up in transition area. #3.
Event warmup:

Warmed up my rota-tor cuffs for the swim. Didn't do any stretching because of the wet ground and I wanted to stay in the water to keep warm. Temp was 54 at start. water temp at 77.
Swim
  • 11m 18s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

I could use some training in the swim. I was pleased with my performance because I started in the front group of swimmers in the wave and finished that way. No collisions. Sited and and avoided slower swimmers well.
What would you do differently?:

Try to swim without so much effort. I don't seem to increase my speed swimming harder. This affects my breathing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

I was at the front of the transition area so after a 200 yard run up the hill and running the entire length of the transition area I was sort of a little dizzy. I put my helmet on backwards and fumbled around a little bit tying to snap in! this cost me some time and embarrassment. Did not have to run with bike in this race. My transition spot was right beside the timing mat.
What would you do differently?:

Put my helmet on right.
Bike
  • 49m 38s
  • 16.6 miles
  • 20.07 mile/hr
Comments:

Rough start. Couldn't get my breath and legs hurt. Probably because I didn't warm up. Rough run up the hill before bike too. Once I got to the dam, I was Okay.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up and stretch before race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Average because friends came up to me and I paused to talk. Then I turned around to make sure I had everything. Lost my focus for a second.
What would you do differently?:

don't talk. Get shoes on and go.
Run
  • 30m 10s
  • 3.75 miles
  • 08m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Started slow with some calf cramping but very pleased with my pace later. I would say the first mile was difficult but after that I did just fine. Very fun! Tried to run down Jack Johnson who had passed me earlier and is in my age group. I nearly caught him but he pulled away at last.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up before race. Suck it up and pass Jack!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and talked with friends and ate a banana. Took some water. ate a couple pieces of pizza.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Had to slow my run training for two months because of my knees. My logs reflect this. I also was trying to transition into five fingers and kept straining my calves during runs. I wasn't as consistent on bike training as well. So, I would say training needed more attention.

Event comments:

I love this race. It's a highlight of the year. This year my good friend Keenan ran in it. It is his first year and he has already ran three. Other friends came out to support us. They have never seen a triathlon so this was nice for them to see why I love doing it.
