Swim
Comments: It was probably the clearest lake water i have ever swam in. The water was perfect temp for the race. My goggles started to fog up half way through and kept a good line surprising. Overall I was happy with the swim, it was right on target for my goal. What would you do differently?: I could always Actually do swim training to get that swim pace faster!! Transition 1
Comments: The run up the beach went well and decided to use the wetsuit strippers to use less energy. They issues with getting it off my left heel and probably cost me time, but thanked them and sucked it up. Got my bike off the rack and got to the mount line, then everything came undone. I lost a shoe off my pedals and my chain dropped down at the same time which cost me time and patients. What would you do differently?: I couldn't really chain much, luck was against me for this one. Bike
Comments: Bike was good after the fist hill out of transition. I tried to keep my speed around 21mph to keep a pace i was comfortable with. The only problems I had with the bike was my arm pads on my areo bars kept falling after the bumps so had to keep adjusting them back up which cost me a lot of speed going out of aero every few miles. When i got back to town I kept hearing my disc wheel hitting the ground, thinking it was flat i just went for it trying to miss the bumps and hope for the best. It ended up just being lost pressure over the 56 miles. What would you do differently?: I need to figure out my bike cockpit and make everything super tight without killing the carbon fiber. I hit close to my target time which was good. Transition 2
Comments: Got my socks and shoes on in half the time I thought it would take me, took off at a slow pace to get my legs going What would you do differently?: Nothing, It went to plan. Run
Comments: All I have to say its mental over physical in this sport. Mentally my head said stop and body said go. It was a long fight with myself out on the run. The first lap it was hard to get my hydration and nutrient set in stone with what they had out there. The second half of the first lap to the half way mark of the second lap went great. I found someone that wanted to chat and keep the pain out of the mind, but lost them in the half way water station and could never get my legs going again. I kept trying to get a slow run/fast walk going but the heat and humid just took the "wind from my wings" and just ended up throwing the goal of 5:20-5:30 finish out the door and focus on my first HIM finish which is a lot more important. What would you do differently?: I need to work on getting my running legs back. Post race
Warm down: I walked and sat trying to get food down which never works right after a race. I jumped and cooled down in the lake and left. What limited your ability to perform faster: My running legs are gone and need to focus on getting them back. And the heat/humid weather killed everyone out there from Age groupers all the way to the pros, It was one of those days. Event comments: the support from the community and volunteers was top notch. I have never had so many people cheering us on and helped keep your mind in the game and finish the race. I thought the race venue was nice too/ great beach with clear water is a big plus. Woke up at 4:30am. Had about 1.5 bagel with nothing on it with a gatorade. I just took it easy. I woke up with a stomach ache thinking was just nerves but never left.
I did a few passes back and fourth in the lake to get my body use to the water temp.
