Pre-race routine:

Flew into the City of Angels on Saturday morning and had a most excellent lunch in Downtown Disney. Turkey Club with a delicious side of bacon potato salad. YUM!

Packet pick-up should have been a bit smoother had I read the instructions beforehand. As it was, I went up, down, up, down and was pooped after all of the up and down! Got some KT tape, awesome stuff, and much better than the Rock Tape I had just finished off.

Took some pictures at the D-land Hotel, it's soooo retro! Went to the Magic Kingdom and rode some of our favorite rides, including Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Railroad and Pirates. And then remembered I was supposed to be resting for a 3am wake up call! Oy. Pasta and jambalaya for dinner. Oy. I think I was giving myself excuses for maybe not having a great race the next day.

Got into bed at 9:30 and immediately, the fireworks show started! Oy. Three Oy's and you're outta here!
Event warmup:

Up at the crack of dawn and had my oatmeal and a little bun with coffee.

Headed over to the start line at about 4:30am, despite the fact that the instructions said to arrive by 4:30am, having done the WDW races, I am pretty sure if I got there that early, I'd be standing around getting nervous.

Restrooms were aplenty and I was able to make a few visits before heading to my corral.

Comments:

My strategy was to run easy for the first 3 miles and then head into marathon pace for the next 5 miles and then see how everything felt for the final 5.1 miles. I figured if I felt good at mile 9 (Angels Stadium), I would just go for it.

I thought this would be a nice way to warm up my heel and work within my fitness. My longest run was 8 miles leading into the race, but my foot had been doing very well so I was optimistic.

First 3 miles were awesome and I was able to take photos with these goofy characters (Phineas???) and then the "Genie" from Aladdin, as well as some crazy Prince/Princess who I still cannot figure out.

Had an entire cheerleading section do a cheer for me in Downtown Disney. "Hey Mickey, you're so fine!", immediately afterwards heard Kathy cheering for me and actually turned and saw her, that sure charged me up! So off I went at marathon effort and saw my Garmin hitting 7:30's pretty regularly.

We left the parks and headed for the streets of Anaheim...which was a bit less exciting, but there was some work to be done, so it was all good. Had my Almond Butter packet somewhere about mile 6 and it went down with water very well. No stomach issues!

There were various groups of antique car clubs, bands, hula dancers and even mariachi bands! It was very cool and time went by quickly and soon we passed the Honda Center (home of the Anaheim Ducks). At mile 9 or so, we got to run onto the field of Angels Stadium! What a blast to be on the baseball field! It seemed so small! I high fived bunches of kids who were cheering for Mickey! And I was zooming around the field and really enjoying myself.

I ramped up the effort coming out of the park, as I knew I only had a 5k left and although it started to get hard, I was somehow managing to hit 7:10's and I honestly didn't know where it was coming from but I resolved to get it done. A fellow runner asked me not to let him slow down and I laughed, replying that I was trying to keep up with him! We buckled down and got it done!
What would you do differently?:

Nada. I had a blast out there!
Post race
Warm down:

Visiting the parks and riding my favorite ride, Space Mountain!

Event comments:

Loved the race! Happy to have my Coast to Coast medal and even though Disney races are expensive and super early in the morning, they are a lot of fun!
