Swim
Comments: Took it easy on the swim. In previous pool swims I've gone off way too hard and end up stopping a the wall to catch my breath. Didn't have to do that this time so that is an improvement. What would you do differently?: More swim training. But really, I'm not all that worried about my swim times. I look at it as a nice warmup. Transition 1
Comments: Probably a relatively slow T1 for not wearing a wetsuit. But I take my time a little to make sure I get my socks on. I'd much rather sacrifice some time here than get blisters later. What would you do differently?: One thing I learned was to position my shoes and stuff towards the front of my bike because I leave my helmet & sunglasses on my aero bars. This time I went to the back of my bike for the shoes and had to go around the rack to get to my helmet. Good thing it was a short rack! Bike
Comments: Good bike ride. I pushed the pace pretty hard for me. HR was up most of the ride, but it was a sprint. What would you do differently?: Not much I don't think, other than just more experience and training. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty good T2, I think. Good enough for me anyway. What would you do differently?: Not much - I think it went well. Run
Comments: New 5k PR for me! Can't believe I went sub-7:00! I paid for it later that week when the IT band acted up, but I'm really happy with this run! What would you do differently?: Nothing. I went as hard as I could. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a little, went to get some food, then walked back to the finish to watch friends and Ytri'ers finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience and overall conditioning and training. But I'm very happy with the results for my first tri season. Event comments: Good race. A little disorganized at the swim start with lining people up according to projected swim time. Maybe a better numbering system? Several water stations on the bike - surprising for a 15 mile event. But maybe it was good for slower riders and first-timers. Overally I thought it was a good race for a park district to put on. Last updated: 2012-07-17 12:00 AM

The usual breakfast of powerbar and wheaties fuel and a small gatorade. I skipped the mini-clif bar in transition - no issues.
I warmed up for the race by riding my bike from the house to the race. About 9 miles. Felt pretty good to loosen things up a little and get in a little more miles on the bike. I did this race purely for fun, as a tune-up for Racine, and because I had some friends doing it as their first outdoor tri.
