Swim
Comments: I felt great in the cold water - it was invigorating and I had taken the time to do lots of open water swimming while training to adjust for conditions. It was a little frustrating to have to navigate around those who stopped in the middle of the course, but this was my first 70.3 and now I know that it will happen! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Just charged on and felt good. Transition 1
Comments: I ended up helping the woman next to me out of her suit and that held me up, but whatever - I helped her out. Our first part of the ride was a long, steep descent so getting up to speed was easy. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I'll be interested to see my "true" T1 time when there's nobosy asking me for help next race. Bike
Comments: This was a great course with some unexpected narrow climbs. All in all, just what I expected. What would you do differently?: I would have eaten more on the flatter out and back. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Clearly, the toughest part of the race for me. I did great on the "out" 6.1 and then the fatigue really set in after I started the final 6.1. I walked two of the hills while hydrating and then ran the rest. Should I have stopped to walk while drinking? Probably not, but I did. What would you do differently?: Not walk to hydrate. Post race
Warm down: Walked, walked, walked and hydrated. What limited your ability to perform faster: Newness to the sport and inadequate fueling on the bike for the run. Event comments: I read that the race is not IM sanctioned for next year and that's a shame. It was well-organized and I would have done it again. Last updated: 2012-07-17 12:00 AM

Since this was my first 70.3, I showed up early for the bike tuneup, had time to spend setting my my two transition areas (we had three bags to manage) and just relaxed.
Some light jogging and stretching.
