Swim
Comments: I had no idea I did this well until the results were posted yesterday... it seems those weekly OWS practices are working!!! I do have to add that the run to transition from the beach was long (over 1/4 mile) and brutal on the feet - not enjoyable. What would you do differently?: Not much... maybe swim just a tad bit faster to have been the first one out of the water ;) Transition 1
Comments: T1 went very well considering this was my first race in the wetsuit. Amazing how much easier BodyGlide makes it to take off! What would you do differently?: Not much. I probably spent a few too many seconds drying my feet - they end up soaked from the water running down my legs anyway. Bike
Comments: Unfortunately, a little more than 3/4 of the way through the course, I stayed straight and should have turned right, which led to my cutting off about 2.5 miles of the course. By the time I had realized my error, it was too late to turn around. Well, not too late, but my time was F'd anyway, so I decided to just continue on the "adjusted" route. What would you do differently?: Uh, let's see, stay on the course! I was so pissed at myself. Also miffed at the race official for changing the course last minute. This race company is NOTORIOUS for having poorly marked courses, so I always make it a point to know their courses beforehand.... obviously two days is not enough to get past this because I'm getting all steamed again as I type this. Transition 2
Comments: I was so frustrated at this point, I don't really remember much about T2, except shaking my head as my boyfriend cheered me on from the sidelines. What would you do differently?: Not much. Run
Comments: My head was just not in this run and it showed. My body hurt and I just did not have the mental capacity to push through it. I have little doubt that if I had not gone off course on the bike, this run would have been much better. I think somewhere in the back of my mind, I realized it didn't matter and as a result, this just plain sucked! What would you do differently?: Not sure since this was pretty much all mental. I never consciously gave up, but I was certainly not focused. Post race
Warm down: Not nearly enough. I walked around for a few minutes, then packed my stuff up and went home to sulk. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not much, I was having a damn good race up until the point I realized I was off course.... all downhill from there. Event comments: I may actually not race another of this company's race's. I KNOW they are bad at marking courses and having enough volunteers at each of their races, and I did this one anyway because of proximity to home and where it fell in my training/racing schedule.
