Swim
Comments: I was near the end of my lane group, passed one swimmer, and was passed by one. The starting pad was on one side of the pool and our lane was on the opposite side of the pool, so I felt that we had a bit of a disadvantage for the few seconds it took to get to our lane and the extra seconds to get back over to the other side again to go out the door. I felt like I sort of peetered out on the 2nd half of the race, had a tougher time. What would you do differently?: I started out a little too hard. I need to pace myself a little better on the longer swims. Transition 1
Comments: Forget and left laces in double knots - very hard to undo when you're dizzy and panicked. Also left jacket on my bike, which I had to quickly stop and throw off, because it was hanging on my wheel. I hoped to pick up the jacket later, but i never saw it again. What would you do differently?: Obviously, make sure the shoes are not only untied, but the shoes are open and ready to slip into. Also make sure not to hang anything on my bike that I don't want there for the race. Bike
Comments: Enjoyed the hill. I liked going down one way and up the other. Had a really hard time drinking though. Breathing so hard I kept choking on the water. Also missed the turn-around point because I was following someone who was on their last lap and I couldn't see the signs (not very well marked, I thought.) What would you do differently?: Mount a drink holder on the front of the bike where I can sip it from a long straw without having to tilt head back or take hands off the bars. Also check to make sure helmet visor is secure - it fell down over my eyes during the race at one point and that was both unsafe and a little embarrassing. Also, I would try to know the bike course better before racing on it. I should try to have at least one go-around so I'm not having to worry on race day. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Again my laces were double knotted - what was I thinking??? Run
Comments: The run was hard from beginning to end. My legs felt like cement and I was cramping pretty badly the whole time. I managed to keep running though, without stopping, even with my knee issues. My knee held up well enough for me to make it, though it was sore. What would you do differently?: Definitely train better (which is hard to do with this knee.) Training and stretching and healing my knee so that I can prepare for those long runs. Really, I was just proud that I finished! Post race
Warm down: Just a little walking. What limited your ability to perform faster: My knee problems, not having a bike that fits me, and not owning a road bike that I can train on. Event comments: I really did enjoy this race a lot, however I would have liked something better than socks and a SubWay hat in my race bag. Especially for my 1st race, I really wanted something like a shirt to wear with pride. I thought for the price of the race, we should have had something better to wear than a SubWay hat and SubWay socks. They also ran out of swim caps and I never received my triathlon souvenir caps. Bummer. Other than that, I like the length of this race and I thought it was well-run. Last updated: 2012-07-20 12:00 AM

Tried unsuccessfully to eat some Red River int he a.m. Too much anxiety. Did a short jog around the block. Some stretching just before our heat. My heat did not begin until 10:30am, which I found a little late, since many were finished the race before I even began mine.
No warm-up lane, so swim was on cold muscles.
