Swim
Comments: extremely wavy, ran in and immediately started dolphin diving (first time), trouble catching waves an heart rate going too fast, ended up going too far left to the first buoy, said to myself, just get around the first buoy, once I did, the waves were so rough I was close to panic so I swam breast stroke for a couple of minutes to catch my breath and calm down, then I started to alternate breast and free, but the waves were rough the entire swim, couldn't wait to get out of the water What would you do differently?: should have been more mentally prepared for the rough water, maybe not dolphin dive at the start, try not to panic, wasted lots of time swimming breast, but got through it anyway Transition 1
Comments: OK transition, was just glad to get out of the water after that rough swim What would you do differently?: not too much Bike
Comments: a little rough from the swim, then out on the bike and into the wind right off the bat, took about 10 miles before my legs felt strong, first half of the course was tough, the second half was easier and I felt better, after first 10-12 miles lonely on the course until the last 3-4, no one around What would you do differently?: not much, wind was tough, first half was tough, didn't ride in aerobars at all, only on drops Transition 2
Comments: my T2 time was really slow, take a few minutes to tie shoes and get a drink, prob cost me 30 sec What would you do differently?: not much Run
Comments: started out OK, stopped at all of the water stations to walk which added about 10-15 secs per mile, pace felt fairly comfortable, a few of the small hills were tough, felt the beginnings of a quad cramp but it never happened, slowed down the final mile, much better run than last time I did this course What would you do differently?: not much, maybe not take as much time at the water stations, finish a little stronger Post race
Warm down: walked, drank water What limited your ability to perform faster: poor swim, due to waves and having to swim breast stroke, had trouble getting into the groove on the bike Event comments: was a B race, was not tapered, just took the day before off, swim was really hard, first half of the bike was hard, then found the groove, didn't push it too much on the run, despite all of that, just 1:15 off of getting 3rd in age Last updated: 2012-07-22 12:00 AM
