Swim
Comments: Did have to navigate quite a bit of traffic and took a bit of extra time trying to get around whom I'm calling "zig-zagging-back-stroke man"... Every time I tried to go around, he'd zig... then I'd try the other side and he'd zag... I FINALLY got around him... Thank goodness I've been practicing my interval training b/c I had to sprint to get around before he'd switch directions... I think he did a perfect "Z-pattern"!! What would you do differently?: push a bit more... I basically just had a relaxing swim (which felt GREAT) but it was my first 1/2 and I was nervous to use up too much energy... next time I'll go a bit harder... Transition 1
Comments: Slow trans... more important for me to stop (quickly) and say hello to my family that made the trip and it was a LONG run up the beach... Also stepped in wading pool to get sand off, sunscreen etc... What would you do differently?: not much other than get my butt up the beach more quickly :) Bike
Comments: Felt great on the bike the whole way... had LOTS of legs left for 2nd half.. I went out really (too) conservatively (again, since this was my 1st 70.3)... Had a lot more in tank for ride but was nervous b/c of heat & upcoming run. Bumps were getting really old too... by the end I had had enough of the bum-bum-bum-bump etc... What would you do differently?: go out a little harder... The bike is BY FAR my best and my run will always be pretty slow so no need (I see now) to really hold back so much. Transition 2
Comments: This trans was fine What would you do differently?: not much... Run
Comments: I'm a Jeff Galloway run/walker... used a 3:30/1:00 ratio and was able to stay consistent the whole way... had about 11:30 pace per mile for first few miles but in the middle i slowed b/c I stopped to drink & eat YUMMY oranges at all the aid stations. Also stopped to get more sunscreen too... picked pace back up for last few miles... Did what I set out to do... Finish, UPRIGHT, not sick & feeling well :) What would you do differently?: Not much... reading and seeing how sick/hot & over heated a LOT of folks were here, I'm super pleased that I had a plan (ahead of time) to run and walk... I felt good, never hit a wall and actually sped up for last few miles. I'll never be lightening but I exceeded my expectations as far as feeling better than I thought I would :) Post race
Warm down: more fluids, 2 turkey sandwiches, chips & a soda :) What limited your ability to perform faster: I held back (on purpose) Event comments: LOVED IT! WILL FOR SURE DO IT AGAIN FOR SURE!! ONLY COMPLAINT IS THE BUMPS ON BIKE COURSE... 3 MILE RD. SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED...IT IS A HAZARD!! Last updated: 2012-07-23 12:00 AM

Up at 4:00 (stayed at hotel in Kenosha) ate banana & homemade (pre-made and brought) whole grain pancake w/oatmeal... sipped Gatorade & water... Drove to race... no problem getting street parking. Got Trans set port-o-potty visit etc...
forced down a bit more banana and 1/2 power bar..about 40 min. prior to wave start got in my wet suit and took a nice swim... water was PERFECT! visited w/other racers... stayed present and enjoyed each moment. Fun to hear them wish me a "Happy Birthday" right before my wave went off... sent me in the water with a big smile :)
