Age Group Rank = 3/16
Pre-race routine:

Bowl of oatmeal, drive to site. Check tires in parking area, slow bike to race start. (Parking is about a 10-min walk away from race site.)
Swim
  • 09m 7s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

I didn't have a bad time even with all the chaos at the start. I swam slightly slower because I was stuck behind a few people, but I wouldn't have gone much faster if I could have passed. Prepares me for OWS race I figure. Never got bunched up. I was slow getting out of the pool because there was a line for the ladder. Water was about 82 degrees?
What would you do differently?:

Try to pass earlier? Overall a good swim for me. I love swimming outside and this was a nice pool.
Transition 1
  • 02m 20s
Comments:

I am very slow in transition. Have to put on shorts, shirt, helmet, socks, shoes... Still 10 seconds faster than last race though.
What would you do differently?:

Get a tri suit!
Bike
  • 44m 57s
  • 11.62 miles
  • 15.51 mile/hr
Comments:

Biking is not my strength - maybe knock people off their bikes so they will stop passing me? :-) Good ride for me though.
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

Still working on transitions, but shaved almost 30 seconds on T2 compared to last race. Rack bike, toss helmet, change shoes, put on race belt.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster out of transition.
Run
  • 28m 4s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run for me, hip and knee pain hit after 1.5 miles and struggled to keep pace to the finish. Really had to push myself, but a good time overall for me.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep training.
Post race
Warm down:

Great post-race food. Grabbed a bottle of water and a hummus wrap. Sun was coming out finally but there was plenty of seating in the covered pavilion. Handmade awards were awesome. Great race, well organized.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being a newbie

Event comments:

Can't wait until next year!

Course: Nice course. Hilly and typical for Asheville. No one big killer hill, just lots of rollers. I'm a beginner and found it challenging but not horrible. The first about two miles is flat and fast and shaded, and the last half a mile is downhill or flat.
