Total Time = 1h 07m 32s
Overall Rank = 15/49
Age Group = Men 45-49
Age Group Rank = 4/11
Pre-race routine:

Overall rank Men only.

Normal Training/Race Breakfast.
Arrived early, setup transition

Event warmup:

Ran .75 miles
20 mins before scheduled race start, swam a 150 warmup
Swim
  • 07m 31s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

Again the swimming is my achilles.
Started good, but crazy waves generated for a pool. Lots of people splashing and I gulped a lungfull.

YoY -0:16
What would you do differently?:

Keep training.
Transition 1
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Short run. Did it fast. No socks.
YoY -2:50
What would you do differently?:

Nothing much. Just push harder. More focus on speed.
Bike
  • 34m 29s
  • 10 miles
  • 17.40 mile/hr
Comments:

Kicked it on the bike. Need to train the hills harder.
YoY -4:02
What would you do differently?:

Screwed up one upshift on the chain ring and threw the chain. It cost me somewhere in the 10-15 second range, which cost me 3rd in AG.
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Just took too long. Should be able to be faster. Longer than last year....I have a race belt to put on and changed shoes. Last year, my bib was already on my shirt and I had toe clips, so I was already in my running shoes.
YoY +0:05
What would you do differently?:

Carry visor and race belt with me while moving towards run out.
Run
  • 22m 57s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 09m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I think I could have pushed a little harder. Still conserving energy (for what?) The eventual 2nd place AG passed me during the run.
YoY -4:13
What would you do differently?:

Suck it up and be mentally tougher. I had 2nd place in front of me and let him go. I think I had more in the tank.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretches. Water, banana, apple.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mental weakness.

Event comments:

Low rating only because is it a short sprint. All legs are shorter than most sprint tris. This does make it a GREAT first tri.
I took 11:15 off last year's time, so overall I am pleased, but I can still see much room for improvement.
