Run
Comments: I lined up way in the back, I knew I would be finishing back there. MDRA races are very competitive. The start went smoothly and the first bit was easy enough. About 1.5 miles in was the first good hill and it was gentle rollers from there. This was a 3 lap course so I knew now what I had in store. I seriously considered stopping after 2 laps. Since this was a training run it wasn't supposed to be fast, but running on tired legs was torture on the hills. I train too much on the flat trails. Anyway, after I started the second laps I was overtaken by the leaders who were starting their third lap. From that point on it was a steady stream of very fast people. It was quite entertaining and actually my 5th mile was the fastest. I remember enjoying this lap the most. I had a gel at the midway point. The third lap was torture. Very lonely and painful. My feet hurt and I wondered if I should even continue, but decided I was just making excuses. I had to walk for a few seconds to stretch, my glutes and whole hip area has been sore since starting boot camp. But as soon as I saw the couple people I had passed previously coming at me, I stepped it up. Finally made it through the finish - my Garmin had me at 9.45 miles. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Not ideal race prep. I need to keep reminding myself: not a race, just a training run. This indicates nothing as far as pace goes. It does indicate I can stick with it! Event comments: A nice, small race. Nothing fancy. Last updated: 2012-07-27 12:00 AM

Had a banana and a big glass of water. I didn't have toast or coffee, which is unusual for me, but I thought I try doing with less. I got worried as the start approached because I felt hungry. I decided it was mostly mental. This is a small race, so easy to get around.
I jogged to the start with the others, maybe .2 miles. The start was downhill from the eventual finish and it was a three lap course.
