Swim
Comments: Good swim considering the lack of swim training in the last 3 years What would you do differently?: Train Transition 1
Comments: Had some trouble getting into shoes on the bike, but again, have not practiced in a long time. Bike
Comments: I decided that I just wanted to go as hard as I could on this to see where I was at compared to the last time I raced this before IM. Did pretty well based on training. What would you do differently?: Not much, maybe slow down a little. Transition 2
Comments: This is where it started to fall apart. About 4 steps into my run out of transition my left hamstring cramped more than I have ever felt before. I could not even walk without it happening. Once I thought I had that figured out and taken care of the right out locked up. Took me forever to get out. What would you do differently?: Not work 13 hours on my feet the night before. Run
Comments: The cramps continued until I was able to get Gatorade at the first aid station. I sat down about .5 miles in to stretch. First mile was 8:39 and then the following 2 were 7:26 and 7:25. I know I could have cut close to two minutes total off of this run without the cramps and fear of cramps later in the run. What would you do differently?: Same as T-1 Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Working until 2am and only getting 2 hours of sleep. I had some cramping while working, and outside wedding that required a lot of walking and lifting. Event comments: I love this race which is why it is the one I am doing this year. I have know what I can do here and really think I would have been in contention for the AG win without the long night before the race even with the lack of training. The AG winner was only 3 minutes or so ahead of me and most of that I could have cut in T-2 and the run. My running has been good as of late so I know I missed out on my best. Still, as I had in my head going in, go as hard as I could and see what happens. Last updated: 2012-07-29 12:00 AM
