Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 40m 39s
Overall Rank = 60/91
Age Group = 40-49
Age Group Rank = 19/25
Pre-race routine:

Wake 5am,Protein shake granola bar, vitamins, low calorie gatorade, water
Event warmup:

setup transition area, bathroom, practice swim, light jog, jump squats to get heart rate up.
Swim
  • 24m 45s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not enough training leading up to swim, couldn't get a rhythm going with my free style stroke, ended up breast stroke 90% of swim. Though my mind set going into the swim portion was to survive and finish which is what I did.
What would you do differently?:

practice practice practice
Transition 1
  • 02m 55s
Comments:

Slow T1, didn't run up the beach, took to much time catching my breath during T1 and drying myself off. overall T1 place 57
What would you do differently?:

speed up and recoup on bike
Bike
  • 44m 35s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 15.48 mile/hr
Comments:

First few miles were below average, second loop of course was faster.
What would you do differently?:

push harder
Transition 2
  • 02m 4s
What would you do differently?:

try to speed up process. needed my Xtenx laces for running shoes, this would have saved me 45 seconds.
Run
  • 26m 20s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

first 200 yards out of T2 right calf was cramping, worked through it, moving to level running surface helped. I think cramp may have been from right side of road sloping down to curb (uneven)putting more pressure on right calf.
What would you do differently?:

find level ground immediately, push a little harder after first mile, lengthen stride sooner.
Post race
Warm down:

banana orange, a little stretching, water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

apprehension, unfamiliarity, Swim, transition times

Event comments:

1st drink station at start, final drink station of run was to close to finish, somewhere within the last quarter mile, needed a drink station at mile 2 rather then at finish. To steep a hill coming out of T1 if 95% of riders need to dismount.

Course: directly out of T1 was an "Extremely" steep hill climb. I was able to climb hill on first loop/lap of course and decided to save legs and only climbed half of hill on 2nd lap. 99% of riders were pushing their bikes up this hill. I actually like hill climbs but this hill was ridiculous, course should be sent up a different road where no dismount is required.
