Swim
Comments: My swim was good. i was going to line up outside to stay out of the group but it seems everybody else did that so I lined up in front so I had a direct beeline for the first buoy. I went out hard (for me) and aftetr about 2 minutes, the lead group was gone, the slow group was way back and me and 1 other guy were in wide open space. I relaxed and enjoyed the swim. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: My T1 is always slow. There was a long run and I ma normally gassed coming out of the water. All went as planned Bike
Comments: This was probably my best bike leg to date. I focused hard to calm down in the first mile and get comfortable. Once my HR slowed a little, I got after it and started passing folks. I got passed by a couple of people which is very good for me. I passed about 10 people. At about mile 18, there were a couple of sizable hills and I worried that I had overdone the bike and ruined my run but all was well and I cruised into T@ What would you do differently?: Same as always, more power over time. Sufferfest is the prescription for the winter. Transition 2
Comments: T2 is T2. I went as fast as I could. What would you do differently?: not much Run
Comments: the run started with a long slow uphill and my legs were not cooperating. I did feel good that the way back would be mostly downhill and I was right. After the turnaround, I felt good and also finally caught the dude I had been trading places with since mile 1 on the bike. I'm normally not too competitive, but when he tried to keep pace and I sped up and easily dropped him, it felt pretty good. What would you do differently?: run faster Post race
Warm down: ate some food. milled around talked to folks Event comments: 3D did ok on this race. it was very small so there were some minor issues which were not their fault. 1 the EMS was very late so we started late. 2. there were no police directing traffic, only kids with stop signs. I think police presence would have help to make the bike leg safer. Myself and my wife swapped stories of honking drivers and a dangerous close call with a bunch of bikers and a coal semi truck who laid on his horn as he passed in the same lane as the cyclists. Aside form that it was a fun race and we were happy. Last updated: 2012-08-02 12:00 AM
