Pre-race routine:

got up early and ate toast with peanut butter. Headed out to the race site with plenty of time to get set up and mill around.
Event warmup:

Swam for about 10 minutes
Swim
  • 36m 57s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 15s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started towards back of my wave only because the corral was small and i got in late. I'm a slow swimmer but apparently not as slow as a lot of others. I had to make my way through lots of people. The swim seemed to take forever and I was ready to get the hell out of the water. I was hoping for closer to 30 minutes but just had trouble in traffic.
What would you do differently?:

Start in the middle of the pack.
Transition 1
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

My transition was better than in my other races. I wore earplugs which helped abate the poor balance I normally have coming out of the water. Grabbed my stuff, did an extra check that I had everything and took off.
What would you do differently?:

I could go with a little more urgency.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 47s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.93 mile/hr
Comments:

My bike was really good for me. Maybe too good. I had purchased a new bike about a month before and was pretty jacked up to go fast. I felt really good and passed a few people. i was passed by quite a few of the 40-45 age groupers but that is nothing new.
What would you do differently?:

Train for better power over time and try to save something for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

fair transition. racked my bike, grabbed my crap wobbled to the run out.
Run
  • 1h 05m 27s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

I hear that there is no such thing as a good bike followed by a bad run. There is, however, a really good bike (for me) followed by a semi-fun leisurely trot for 10k. I had not much left for the run so I decided to not try to kill myself to make a fair time on the run. I ran relatively comfortably and had a good time chatting with people as I passed or they passed and took in the race fun. I walked through the aid stations and thanked everybody. It started to rain with about a half mile left which was welcome as it was getting pretty hot.
What would you do differently?:

not much. Im a slow runner. train for more speed.
Post race
Warm down:

It started to poor as I crossed the finish so I put my bike and gear in the car and went to grab some food.

Event comments:

This race was very well organized. I am new to the area and this race was so very well done. The Race Director is know for putting on a great race and I was not disappointed. Will do this one again next year for sure.
