Swim
Comments: Swam hard out of the gate but after 400-500 yards i stopped kicking and slowed my stroke down to a pace i felt i could swim to florida if i needed to. Since this was my first 1/2 i wanted to keep everything moderate. Was a comfortable enjoyable swim with a great current. I stayed away from everybody for the most part but there was plenty of room so that was easy to do. What would you do differently?: Next year i will probably swim harder to shave a couple of minutes off and try and get it under 30 min. Transition 1
Comments: Rented a myathlete tracker for family/friends to track where i was on the course and forgot to turn it on when i set up transition in the morning so i spent a couple of extra minutes fiddling with that. the long grass was all over my feet and took longer than i thought to get it all off as i didn't want it to bug me on the bike. What would you do differently?: next time make sure my athlete tracker is on before the event starts and maybe try and have my shoes on the bike already instead of putting them on in T1 Bike
Comments: My GPS on my watch didn't work until 35 miles in so i had no idea as to my pace but was just going by perceived effort. This ended up helping my bike time as i would have let off the gas some if i had my watch working. I ended up backing off on the last 15 miles or so. I tried to pee on the bike but couldn't and didn't want to stop to pee so i just held it but then i ended up not drinking enough because i didn't want to put any more pressure on my bladder What would you do differently?: Learn how to pee on the bike so i can continue to hydrate Transition 2
Comments: Had to pee so bad i went into the porta potties in transition and had a 2+ minute pee which killed my T2 time. What would you do differently?: Learn how to pee on the bike so i don't have to in transition Run
Comments: Came out of T2 feeling really good and had a sub 9 minute pace going until i started cramping in my quads a half mile in. I spent the next 3-4 miles at an easier pace and stopping every 1/2 mile to stretch them out. I started being able to pick up the pace some around mile 4 or 5 and got a couple of good miles in fighting off the cramps when the outside of my knee started to hurt (did this on the last 3 or 4 training runs). I ignored the pain as long as i could but had to walk a little starting around mile 10/11 but still finished within my goal time of 10:00-10:30 pace. Overall was happy but wished i would have been better hydrated coming off the bike and should have stretched/foam rolled when my knee started hurting the last week or so. What would you do differently?: Hydrate better on the bike. Post race
Warm down: Beer, pizza, watch my little brother finish, beer, pizza watched other finishers adn then went back to the cabin and drank a ton more beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: cramps and knee pain(IT band issue i think) Event comments: This race was extremely well organized and well suported by the community. Was worth every penny and will be doing this race every year. Last updated: 2012-08-05 12:00 AM

Bikes checked in the day before and registered so only had to get body marked and setup transition. Then walked from T1 to swim start and did some light stretching and hydrating while I waited over an hour for my wave (#17)
