Swim
Comments: I still have trouble with my open water. I know I am much faster than this. I got a little psyched out at first because I always think I am going off course. What would you do differently?: Maybe swim more than once a week. Really I just need more open water time. Transition 1
Comments: This transition seemed longer than normal for me. I think part of it was the long run up the hill to transition and the long run with my bike out of transition. What would you do differently?: Train more to build up more endurance to get out of transition faster. Bike
Comments: I was ready to burn this course up on the bike. However I dropped my chain twice going up hill. Both times I could not pedal it back on. The first time it dropped to the inside, the second time it dropped to the outside around the crank arm. I had to come to a complete stop to put it back on. I estimated that I lost 3 minutes from loosing speed, stopping, STARTING FROM A FREAKING STANDSTILL IN THE FIRST 3RD OF THE HILL!!!!! Kind of burns the quads up. I saw some of my age group pass me while I was working out the issues. Oh well it cost me 3 to 4 spots in my age group. On another note I had to pass a couple cars during the course. What would you do differently?: NOT DROP A CHAIN!!!! Work on staying in the aerobars for the entire race. Transition 2
Comments: This was a fast transition for me really happy about it. Run
Comments: I took some advice from a freind and got rid of my issue with my leg locking up from going to hard. This time I left transition with a heart rate around 150bpm and went about a mile untill my legs felt good and than slowly kicked the heart rate up to about 173 to catch a few of the clydesdales that I saw ahead of me. Overall I am really pleased. What would you do differently?: I think I could have pushed the run harder a little quicker. Something to try for next time. Post race
Warm down: Um, stuff my face with pizza. What limited your ability to perform faster: Dropping a chain, and open water swimming. Event comments: I loved this race. Wished I could of convinced my fiance to do it. From the times posted she would have probably won her age group by about 6 minutes or more (She is a way better athlete than me). Ohh well fodder for next year. The prize drawing at the end was awsome. They gave away a brand new QR Kilo, Zip 808 tubulars, 10 spinervals (bundled together), a QR wetsuit, and transition pack loaded with about $800 worth of gear. The more amazing part is that it took them about 25 trys to finnaly get winners for the drawing as it was based on your race number and some people who would have won had already went home. Sucks to be them knowing they would have won a $2000 bike. Can't wait to try the 1/2 iron at the same spot. Last updated: 2006-05-31 12:00 AM
