Swim
Comments: Another "I'll take that" swim. I was sure to stay way to the outside since nearly half of the racers today were first timers. I didn't want to get pulled in to the fray so I started outside and stayed outside. Probably swam quite a few extra yards that way, but oh well. Caught at least three or four waves right in the mouth on this swim, which was more than normal, but there was a lot of churn, so in highsight I'm not too surprised. What would you do differently?: Other than occasionally train to swim, not much. 30/166 in age group is just fine considering my zero training. Transition 1
Comments: Same song, different day. Out of water and up to T1, where I waited for the sister a bit. But she had a much better swim today than at HOTL, so I didn't really have to wait too long. Bike
Comments: My only complaint about this race is the road conditions on the bike course. They are terrible. All rough road all the time. Ugh. I realize this is not the race organizer's fault, but it is a drag. Anyway, this was a pretty good ride for me, really. Again considering the absolute lack of training, I'll take 16 mph with a smile, thankyouverymuch. I was really feeling good on this ride, so I just kept rolling along as fast as I could. There are quite a lot of turns and corners on this course (same bike course as Lifetime Mpls for those that have done that), so it's hard to get into a nice long sustained groove, but at least it makes for interesting riding. What would you do differently?: Not much. I knew we were walking the run,so I didn't worry about saving any legs for that or anything. Just kept up the pace as best I could. Transition 2
Comments: Sister and I got into T2 at the same time, but she has to put on an ankle brace, so that takes a while, I waited with her for a minute or so, and then decided to go wait with our friend who was there cheering us on. She was out along side of the run course, so I left T2 and went to wait/chat with her. Run
Comments: The first 3-4 minutes of this was me standing with our friend while waiting for sister. Then off we went, walking the whole 5k. Sister's plantar fasciitis was just not allowing for any running, unfortunately. But we hoofed it the best we could, and our friend was able to walk along side us the whole time, which was great. Nice speed walk with two of my favorite people! What would you do differently?: Not a thing! Post race
Warm down: We were able to do the friends and family finish, which was nice. Got a nice group pic as we crossed the finish line. Our friend is a runner so she's been to many races before, but never a triathlon. She was really impressed with the atmosphere and I think might consider racing one someday. What limited your ability to perform faster: The usual. No need to restate it here. :) Event comments: This really is a great race, especially for beginners. The YWCA really puts a lot of effort into supporting the racers--tons of volunteers, tons of water stations, tons of food at the end, lots of great options for teams/buddies/friends. For people like me who are not hard core racers, this is a great race. Last updated: 2012-08-13 12:00 AM

Once again did this race as a sister/sister team with (shockingly!) my sister. Did the usual rack, setup, bodymark routine. The bodymarking line was VERY long, but they kept it moving well enough to herd everyone through.
Got in the nice warm water to swim around a bit. Not much.
