Total Time = 2h 56m 4s
Overall Rank = 127/357
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 21/39
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5am. Ate Powerbar and 3 eggo waffles. Drove to site. Drank some water, took the rest of the water bottle with me to drink as I setup transition.
Event warmup:

Just walked around and chatted with friends.
Swim
  • 36m 57s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 28s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim went well. I kept calm and was able to sight well. It took some time to get my head into the water with all the swimmers around me. My time was slow in comparision to the field, but 2:20's per 100M is great for me. There are NO wetsuits here, so it's good old fashioned work.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to practice more swimming. Need to get in 1-2 open water swims a month minimum then keep my 3/week master swimming. I didn't start swimming steady until July so I'm happy with this performance.
Transition 1
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

I still have to sit, put on socks and bike shoes, then run to mount line. I don't do flying mounts so I need to work on this.
What would you do differently?:

Work on ridingg withOUT socks, keeping shoes on bike and flying mounts.
Bike
  • 1h 19m 11s
  • 28.58 miles
  • 21.66 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was good for race. I could and should have pushed harder. Taking 2 weeks off prior to this race hurt me (work & vacation). My 2nd gatorade was warm and I would have given anything for some water.
What would you do differently?:

Take a water with me and freeze it so it stays cold for 2nd loop.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

I don't ride on top of the shoes so I have to stop, get off bike and run in shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn and practice riding on tops of shoes at end of course.
Run
  • 56m 1s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

That lack of water on the bike, well it caught me on the run! Should have been able to push into the low 8 min miles under normal conditions.
What would you do differently?:

Going to always have a water on the bike AND start incorporating more brick training into my workouts.
Post race
Warm down:

Came across the line and felt like I wanted to puke. was glad to see my wife, in-laws and my 2 boys. Walked around and cooled off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bad nutrition on the bike hurt me the most.

Event comments:

Really enjoyed the race. Didn't like the grassy hill to run up, but overall it was a great race. Just need to get my nutrition better on the bike then I should be able to trim some significant time next year.

Course: 2 mile loop that you run 3 times, then sprint to the finish line. The course had a big grassy hill you had to climb THREE times. That part sucked. At the top of the hill, you had to keep running on grass behind some apartments til you get to a parking lot.
