Total Time = 1h 08m 45s
Overall Rank = 10/198
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 3/13
Pre-race routine:

up at 5:30, ate english muffin w/ almond butter, small glass apple juice. Got to race early. Rhodiola hour before and 15 min before race.
Event warmup:

A little swimming - not much. Could have done more warm-up.
Swim
  • 09m 46s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Crowded first half. Merged w/ olympic race. Couldn't find someone fast enough who was close enough to draft off of. Swam pretty straight. Good effort. Not convinced they measure the distance accurately - can swim WAY faster than this in the pool - and I'm faster in a wetsuit.

Transition 1
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

fumbled with the zipper a bit. Helmet not on super fast. Not a great spot on the rack for the sprint race.
What would you do differently?:

practice with the zipper and helmet more.
Bike
  • 34m 34s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 21.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Didn't take my pump/bag. Half bottle of water - all good. Forced myself to back off a bit throughout and not race guys - conserving for run. Could have gone faster, but led to a much better run transition. Good focus on pedaling mechanics.
What would you do differently?:

Would have loved to have trained more.
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Was 2nd to last rack. Entered on wrong side. Marked my spot well, but had to go under the bar and grab things from wrong side - through me off.
Run
  • 21m 51s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good all things considered. No side ache or lack of air. Legs felt good. Energy ok. Hot. Strong kick to finish - missed second in age group by less than a second. Tried to cut inside on last corner but got cut off and bumped - lost my momentum. Should have waited to kick until after the turn - would have beat him.
What would you do differently?:

Would have loved to get more runs in. Did great for my level of training and sleep. Confident I could have kept 6:50 pace with normal training.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Huge lack of sleep and training (newborn, family sickness, moving in a week), body not 100% - 15 hr days of physical work on our new house - knees in rough shape.

Event comments:

Love this race. Recruited friends. Hope to do it again. Suggestions: add mileage markers on run, and offer a discounted registration for sprint race (or allow cash prizes for both races since they pay the same amount).
