Run
Comments: Having no training at all for this I wasn't sure what to expect. Suffering from a stress fracture the last couple months has really hindered my ability to do much of anything. Went in with an unrealistic time goal and I didn't hit it. Which didn't surprise me but I still wanted it. :) I wanted to be at the 3:45 group but couldn't even get to it with so many people so I started with the 4:00 group instead. With so many people out there it was hard to get into a groove. I felt pretty good with the 9:00 minute splits so I decided to stick with that and make my goal to finish under 4:00 instead of 3:45. The two hills really didn't bother me that much climbing them...more of the decent! Not sure if because of my size just trying to hold myself back a little bit my quads got burnt out. Around mile 11 the headwind was just absolutely crazy and was really impacting my run. When you're a foot taller than everyone else it will do that to you. Mile 18.5 is when I first started to walk, I was really starting to fall apart. My legs where shot and my feet where KILLING me! And not because of the stress fracture in the left foot...just the whole thing hurt...both of them! Ran for a couple more miles and about mile 21 is when the wheels started to fall off. I just kept moving forward the best I could. Ran as long as I could, walked the water stops, ran as long as I could and continued that process until the finish line. Post race
Event comments: The post race stuff was so far away it was crazy. I understand 30k runners and you have to get people away from the start line. But a mile walk after a 26 mile run is not something you look forward to. Last updated: 2012-08-14 12:00 AM
