Swim
Comments: Best open water swim to date. I set myself at a 1:45 / 100 yd pace and did a pretty good job of keeping it. Initial sighting problems but quickly corrected it so I didn't go too far off the line. Time trial start was nice and helped my swim. Never felt crowded which was really nice and helped me relax and just swim. What would you do differently?: Swim to the end and not stop as soon as I could stand. Continue to work on endurance speed. Transition 1
Comments: Could try without socks but I like socks for running so the net effect of when I add socks (T1 or T2) is 0. My bike was at the far end of transition so extra time running with the bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Felt good about it for my experience level. Bike
Comments: Started having pretty bad stomach cramps around mile 8. I think this was a result of a late dinner and maybe eating too close to the start of the race. Felt really good about the ride before the cramps kicked in but after the cramps came on I dialed it back. What would you do differently?: Not cramp. Strenuous work schedule over past six weeks has limited my cycling time so that had an effect as well. As a newbie to the cycling / triathlon game I need to get on the saddle as much as possible. Transition 2
Comments: Put on shoes and water bottle. Put on race belt and hat while running. What would you do differently?: Zip laces. I keep forgetting to do that but I'm still pretty fast with tying my shoes so I'm not sure how much it will benefit. Run
Comments: Tough stomach cramps the entire way. Really had to slow my pace down from my normal comfortable pace of about 7:30 - 7:45 / mile. Refused to succumb to the cramps and walk so I ran it out but just couldn't go at my normal pace which was frustrating. What would you do differently?: Not cramp. That was a bummer. Do more bike/run bricks and more standalone runs. Work schedule lately has limited ability to do that but it should pull back a bit between now and my next race allowing me to get more adequate training. Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Had water and orange slice. Cursed my stomach cramps. What limited your ability to perform faster: Severe cramps starting on mile 8 of the bike. I've not had this issue before so I wonder if it had to do with my late dinner and eating breakfast too close to race start. This was my third triathlon so I'm very happy with my progress. Prior to April of this year I wasn't a swimmer, cyclist, or much of a runner. Event comments: Very organized and well done. Everything was clearly marked. Bike racks were plentiful which was nice because there was adequate space to get bike in and out of transition. Nice race shirt and socks. Last updated: 2012-08-18 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 and drove 40 min to the site. Had a banana at 5 am and stopped for coffee. Had Honey Stinger Waffle at 5:30 am.
Stretched, jogged to water, splashed around in water.
