Swim
Comments: Slightly congested after 2 lengths. Had to pass 2 racers on 3rd length which smoked me pretty good for the remaining laps. Overall, can't complain since I haven't swam in 3 months. What would you do differently?: Start my watch at the start... Be more aggressive early and try to relax in the 2nd half. Transition 1
Comments: Waited until I was on the bike and at race speed before strapping shoes. Had to suit up and then walk around rack to remove bike. Cost me some seconds. What would you do differently?: Probably would have racked on bars instead of seat to ease removal and having to walk around rack. Bike
Comments: The only time I was passed during the entire race was around Mile 8 by one guy (think he ended up finishing 2nd). Tore it up on the ride and really pushed hard. Struggled to keep my HR under control, but didn't want to slow down. Would have strategized differently if it wasn't a sprint. Bike felt really good. What would you do differently?: Not much. Maybe not push as hard at the beginning (but really I kept a steady pace throughout). Transition 2
Comments: I like T2, and this one was no exception. Shoes went on easily. Forgot to bring race belt, though. Had to waste seconds putting on running shorts with the number pinned on. What would you do differently?: Bring a race belt... Run
Comments: Didn't drink because it would have slowed me down and I probably would have thrown it up. Had water thrown on me at Mile 1 which was nice. My goal was sub-12, but wasn't even close. My extreme bike HR caught up with me immediately and I really struggled with the 2nd mile. What would you do differently?: Good question... Probably should have slowed on the bike some to save some energy. Maybe should have taken water exiting T2. Post race
Warm down: 1 mile easy jog. What limited your ability to perform faster: No race belt, slamming hard during the bike inhibited a good run. Event comments: Took too long to do awards, but otherwise a great event! Nice to get it done before hurricaine Isaac made his appearance. THANKS OPELOUSAS!! Last updated: 2012-08-19 12:00 AM
