Swim
Comments: Overall felt very strong on the swim. Water conditions were excellent other than swimming into the sun on the middle leg. What would you do differently?: Wear darker tinted goggles. Transition 1
Comments: Wet suit strippers were awesome. I thought the guy was going to pull me off the ground, but got my suit off in one pull. My cycling shoes had been rubbing on my last few long training rides, so I decided to take the extra time to dry my feet and put socks on - otherwise would have been a speedy transition. Bike
Comments: Had some mechanical issues with my bike - my computer sensor kept turning in and hitting the back spokes which not only made a super annoying noise but also cost me a lot of power. This was by far the worst bike split I have ever had. I was disappointed because I started with such a strong swim then lost a lot of ground on the bike. What would you do differently?: Check my equipment more thoroughly on race morning - if I had noticed it earlier I would have just removed the sensor. Transition 2
Comments: My quick release shoe lace broke as I was putting on my left shoe - had to stop and relace. Otherwise not a bad transition. Run
Comments: Great course. I was able to negative split the second half. The aid stations were excellent: well positioned every mile, staffed with enthusiastic volunteers, ice cold sponges were heavenly! What would you do differently?: Could have gone out a little faster -- I had a lot of energy left in the last 4 miles. Post race
Warm down: Crossed the finish line, got my hat and medal, had a few photo ops with the family then stretched for 15 min before hitting up the post-race athlete food tent. What limited your ability to perform faster: Mechanical issues on the bike really killed my speed. I was pleased with my swim and run splits. Event comments: Excellent race in a beautiful location. The volunteers were fabulous and the entire town was very welcoming. I will definitely be coming back again next year. Last updated: 2012-08-20 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:45, had my routine peanut butter and banana on whole wheat english muffin, headed to Ellacoya. Arrived at 5:30 - dropped off but looked like there was still plenty of available parking. Got marked, set up transition, applied sunscreen and relaxed for a few minutes.
Headed to the water around 6:30, did a few hundred meters of swim to warm up. The water was perfect. Watched the first few waves start then headed back to the beach for my 7:20 wave.
