Pre-race routine:

Writing this RR ~2 months after the race will make it challenging to remember details. Up at some early hour and picked up by Baldwin. Scooped up Slake and Shelly and we made our way down close to the start with lots of time. Had fresh port o potties while we waited and then again on the walk to the start. Shelly and I said good bye to the boys and we found a spot in the 4:59ish corral (from what I can recall). We were using this as a training run and for me to knock out another state. Just hung out and chatted with others until the race started.
Event warmup:

No real warm up. Port o pottie run again, GU and some water.

Comments:

Shelly and I were going conservative. We started out immediately with a 9' run/1' walk interval and pretty much stuck to it with the exception of some randomly placed hills or water stops. With Hurricane Sandy looming, the weather was overcast and very windy...especially around HP and the mall.

I ate GU or chomps every 30 minutes or so, but didn't drink enough gatorade as I was craving the saltiness. Things started to get really challenging and my body was aching around mile 14-15 (which happened to be what my longest run for this marathon was). Was awesome to have Slake and Baldwin out on the course on bikes. They were everywhere and we got to see them probably 8-12 times from what I can recall. I am sure I was not the most pleasant person....actually, I know I wasn't the most pleasant person towards the end. Was definitely hurting. Something I continually work on is the mental aspect. Work in progress.

Took the left turn up to the finish and had to walk some before running it home. Piriformis and left ankle were pretty cranky for at least the last 10 miles. Very painful.
What would you do differently?:

Definitely more long run training. And still working on the mental training aspect.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed medals, our finishers "jacket" and the box of food before finding the Scotts and heading to the car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Long runs (due to rib injury).

Event comments:

This was my first time doing MCM and I'm definitely glad I did it. The course was interesting and always had a ton of spectators and fans cheering. It also was crowded the entire time. I like racing with a lot of people, but it was a tad extreme. Overall, a good training run for Vegas, knocked out another state and had an 11 minute PR!
