Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:15, early enough to make a smoothie of peaches, pomegranate juice, and a banana. Also had a thin bagel with PB. I'd organized and packed everything up on Saturday, including loading the bike on the back, so I was completely ready to go with nothing left to do but get TSW up and moving.
Event warmup:

Weird neighborhood, almost built like a western village around a fort-like shopping center. Parked at a school a ways from set-up, so I rode the bike into packet pick-up for a small warm-up. Once into the wetsuit I got in the water and swam around a bit. Nice lake.

Hung pretty close to the group through about two-thirds out the opening leg, which was surprising, even managed to draft a little bit. Not sure where the crowd went after that...I got to the turnaround buoy with 5-6 other swimmers nearby but the crowd was gone. Stayed calm throughout, trying to focus on high elbows, coming up every 9-10 strokes to see where I was. Felt pretty good overall, got out of the water just a little bit after 13 minutes, I think around 13:05, so I think course may have been a little long, but not much. Beat the Nemesis, Mr. Flynn from Abington! Never actually saw him in the water. To have almost 30 swimmers slower than me is a new experience, but a nice one.
What would you do differently?:

Stick with the drafting a little more. I kept backing off, even though I could feel the benefit, because I could see the feet in front of me and I didn't want to get kicked.

131 of 275 in T1 even with having to forcefully pry the wetsuit legs off my heels. Overall decent, moved into and out at a slow jog. Took a little bit to get first foot clipped in.
What would you do differently?:

Sure would like to break two minutes. Probably could've if I'd run in a little faster.

Had a tough time seeing as both lenses on my sunglasses fogged. Actually rode a bit with the sunglass lenses flipped up, wiping at the glasses with my fingers so I could see; otherwise it was like riding straight into the sun.

Not as happy with bike leg as I'd like to be. My average power just seemed to keep falling throughout and ended at 147 with an NP at 157. I was hoping to push between 175-185 for the race, so I didn't even get close to that. I was also determined, however, to not waste energy if I was humping pretty good at lower wattage levels and I was able to do that for a good chunk of the race. On the second loop, though, I was starting to feel the burning in the legs even though I was only pushing in the 150s-160s. So apparently I didn't have the fitness I thought I did. In the end, though, I came out close to where I thought I would on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Monitor training a little more carefully, push harder on the hard days. Maybe push a smidge harder during the actual race. Learn more about training properly (and pacing properly) with the power meter.

Slower here than I wanted. Did take a bit to get the shoes on and comfortable but the biggest time was spent trying to get the sunglass lenses back onto the frame; I'd pulled them off on the bike because they and the frame lenses were both fogging up, making it awful tough to see.
What would you do differently?:

Avoid the glasses issue...that probably would've cut 15 seconds off. Need to figure something out with the Kalani shoes. Love them, they fit and feel like comfortable gloves, but they are tough to get on.

Goal was to post a single-digit per mile time; plan was to go out and try to run anywhere from 9:40-9:50 for most of the run, pick it up a little toward the end. Not sure how much I was able to actually pick up the pace the last quarter mile, but I'm overall pleased with the result, though I'd have loved to beat 30 minutes. I have to temper my frustration with the bike leg by realizing that if I'd gone harder I might not have been able to beat 10/mile on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Shorten up the walk breaks; a few seconds off each and I might've beaten 30 minutes.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, sucked down some water. Walked out into the lake to cool off, which felt absolutely awesome. I was beaten down and drained at the end.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike fitness probably biggest culprit, although not a huge factor. I'm overall pleased. I figured it'd take about 1:45, set beating that as my stretch goal, and I did it by 18 seconds. On that score, then, it was a good race.

Event comments:

Can't rate the post-race activities because I didn't see them! They normally have them around the finish line but there was nothing there but water. TSW and I figured they didn't have any post-race activities because the neighborhood wanted the crowds off the beach and gone. Then we come to find out they were at the other end of transition and we missed all the goodies! A little less organized at the beginning than DQ normally is resulted in a slightly late start. But pretty good overall. A good race, and one I'll do again.

Course: More or less a straight line out and back through the middle of a slender lake around which houses were built. Very wooded lake environment, and with the rustic housing styles, it looked like a small cove off Winnipesauki.
