Run
Comments: This was for JJD's bachelor party, and it was pirate themed and he wanted us to all wear pirate gear for the race. I deviated from the normal gear and wore a puffy pirate shirt (long sleeved poly-cotton) and a doo rag. Started fast (6:48s for the 1st 2 miles)but felt good. There were 2 runners ahead of JY and I after 2 miles that had a very comfortable lead, so we were thinking of just racing for 3rd and 4th. The lead runner had an M-Dot tat, so I figured he knew how to pace and had the race in the bag. I left JY at around 4. At Mile 5 I noticed that the front 2 were slowing considerably. I passed them both (they were running together) at Mile 6 to take the lead. I felt strong and ran hard to extend the lead after the turn. I was toast at Mile 10 and the 2nd place guy had shortened my lead to maybe 300 yards. I pushed as hard as possible. At Mile 12 2nd place started walking and I could no longer see him behind me. I relaxed and coasted in. 1st ever 1/2 Mary win. Felt good. What would you do differently?: Not wear a puffy pirate shirt... Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Pirate gear. Event comments: How could a race sponsored by "Girls, Inc" be bad? Last updated: 2012-08-26 12:00 AM
