Swim
Comments: 100x better then my last race. Actually passed people this time, and barely got passed. Still don't understand how to draft people. Caught up to 1st wave, didnt get caught by the wave behind. Came out of the water and i look at the time hoping for 20min, 16min! Sweet! What would you do differently?: Work on drafting. Transition 1
Comments: Removed arms, stuffed goggles and cap in sleeve, get to the bike. Everything is going well, get to my bike, put helmet on while taking off wetsuit. I cant get it off. Im pulling as hard as i can, and it wont budge over the time chip. I start to panic, but finally get it off, and when i hop on my bike, my shoe hits the ground and flies off my pedal. I stop, put it on, then i cant get in clipped in and i'm swerving around crazily. What would you do differently?: Everything. I was hoping to get under 1min. The wetsuit probably gave me at least 2min on the swim, but the benefits would be much better if i didnt have a problem getting it off. Bike
Comments: Passed people, got passed maybe twice. Had to pee so badly i limited what i drank. But mostly uphill. At first it was just little hills. Eventually me and a group of two elites start climbing this huge steep hill. The one riding with a power meter dropped back, never saw her for the rest of the race, and the other guy flew ahead. I don't understand gears and all that, so i lower it so i can get more pedal strokes in. The 3mile down hill at the end that i was excited for turned out to be less then 2mi. But i made up some time on it. What would you do differently?: I wanted a sub 30 ride, but the hills were much steeper then anticipated. Definitely need to get more hill work in and need to learn what the different gears mean. Transition 2
Comments: Wanted under 1min, but whatever can't complain. What would you do differently?: Maybe push my self to get the the rack faster. Run
Comments: Wanted a sub 20. Came out of t2 like a gazelle running a <5:25 pace. Passed countless number of people and only got passed by 1 person. Then the hill got too steep. Kept under around 7:50. Turned around, downhill ran about 6:40 to the finish. Garmin's distance didn't work from beginning, luckily the course had distance markers. What would you do differently?: Definitely take advantage of the downhills and don't come out of transition so fast. Post race
Warm down: Finally peed. Went and got a massage because my calves felt crampy since the swim. What limited your ability to perform faster: Barely any hill work and bad transitions Event comments: The amount of food post race was unbelievable. Powerbars, muffins, cupcakes, donuts, bagels, fruit, raisins, and unlimited beer from blue point brewery. Probably will enjoy this event more when I'm 21. I plan on doing this race again next year just because of the post race. Last updated: 2012-08-26 12:00 AM
