Run
Comments: The start was not seeded or in corals ... which made for a chaotic start. I was looking to PR and to do so wanted to run a 8:30 pace or less. The first mile was a mass of bodies, kids and start/stop runners. By mile 2 I was more in my groove. There were time clocks at mile markers 1 2 and 3 and each time I passed (8:40), (16:22), (24:20). I saw I was on pace. There was no mile marker 4 which threw me off a bit. Really had no kick left to speak of and my pace definitely fell off at the end when I had an 8 year old blow by me like I was in quicksand. What would you do differently?: Not race after working 8+ hours would be a start. I knew my run fitness was better then where I was this time last year (already set a 5k PR a few weeks ago) , but I was unsure how I would do in a 5 mile race when my long runs were only up to 8 miles and I had not done any speed work. Was pleased I shaved over 3 minutes off my prior best time at this distance. Post race
Warm down: Had a mini bagel. Mingled a bit and gave out some NEW SKIN water bottles, samples and coupons ... then headed home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Raced after an 8+ hour shift at work. Event comments: I wish the start was organized otherwise thought it was great especially for such a huge mob of racers. Last updated: 2012-08-27 12:00 AM

I worked from midnight to 8:30am. Changed at work into my New Skin race kit and then sped from Brooklyn to Garden City. I arrived at the race location at 9:30am for the 10:00am start. Had to park pretty far away and woke up for the second time in the brisk air as I waited near the start.
On my ride I ate a Clif bar and drank 16oz of water ... I did some calf and thigh stretches as I waited to start.
