Pre-race routine:

Just your basic stuff. Got to the race course early. Love that, since it guarantees good parking. Had a banana in the car, walked to Starbucks for coffee and oatmeal
Event warmup:

Swam a little, ran a little
Swim
  • 15m 21s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Wave start. The strange thing was the finish area was very flat and shallow with less than knee deep water for about 100 yards. So, when you could swim no more it was water running which was quite challenging.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Great swim. Was able to draft really well
Transition 1
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

The air temp was so low that when I put on my sunglasses they immediately fogged up and I couldn't see shit. So, I tried clinching the ear piece in my teeth hoping that the air would evaporate the steam as I was riding the bike. Yes, I dropped them. Not wanting to leave behind $100 glasses I turned around, dismounted, got my glasses, re-mounted and started again.
What would you do differently?:

Not drop sunglasses
Bike
  • 46m 36s
  • 13.9 miles
  • 17.90 mile/hr
Comments:

A good ride. Lots of fun and the hills were long tough climbs, but great fun coming down.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training on the hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

No big deal. A basic transition.
Run
  • 22m 27s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Unfortunately, there was nobody around me for the run that I could pace off of, so I pretty much just had to find a pace on my own. I usually find it's helpful to get someone about the same speed and use them as a pace setter.
What would you do differently?:

Train on hills more.
Post race
Warm down:

Just wandered around, ate food, drank electrolyte drinks

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Skills

Event comments:

It'a solid course and fun to do. The organizers were all fouled up when picking up numbers the day before and when I showed up on race morning to rack my bike (yes, I was there right at the opening time) they hadn't even gotten the bike corral set up. Posting of the results was very slow.

That said, once they got going the race was well run and they had plenty of volunteers on course. I'll do it again.
